Beartooth Pass

It can be iffy about any time of the year at those altitudes. Mid summer is probably the best time of year to hit those locations but also probably the busiest as well. Just plan, watch the weather and adjust as needed. As for Beartooth pass, I actually like Chief Joseph better. One of the best passes is actually Rocky Mountain National Park but it can be congested with idiot drivers who park in the middle of the road.

Was out there in 2016 and 2018, week after Labor Day both times. Crowds were down, no really bad traffic either time. In 2016 we road Beartooth in snow flurries, this year weather was perfect. If you decide to head out there let me know, I can tell you where to stay and our experiences out there. And yes, Alpine Lodge in Red Lodge is the place to stay!

Chief Joseph Pass & The Beartooth is one of the best rides anywhere. Cody is a cool little town.
Middle of July to the middle of September are the safest months, but it can snow above 5,000 ft any day of the year. Warm clothes just in case. I suggest heated grips and vest.
Up on The Beartooth, 2016. Beautiful sunny day.

We did the passes on the last week of July ( two weeks before Sturgis ) had no issues except a few hours of light sleet....but the views oh!!! The views were spectacular....enjoy them....and be prepared.....Alpine Lodge a plus !!!! And another great road 14a from Lovell to Ranchester, just as good as Beartooth....
