Can I make a recommendation to the OP on Day 2-3. I would go from Cody up Chief Joseph Skwy onto Beartooth and then east to Red Lodge and spend night in Red Lodge. Then next day go back across Beartooth, thru Cooke City and over to West Yellowstone city and then up 287 and stay in Virginia City for the night. Then get up and boogie all the way up to St Mary..(.287 to 89) . Did this couple of years ago and absolutely beautiful..
We're still sorting it all out. Due to the time of year we may come up from the south so we hit the northern climes when the heat is on further south. May very possible make this ride ourselves. Talking to some riding buddies but so far everyone already has plans....still need to do some mods to the bike. Tour pack rack and a bag to fit will help with toting enough for two. Surprisingly FXRG's do not fold down very small....lol....we both have one. Then theres the helmets ...More room, more crap....lol
If you start off on a full tank and on a bagger, you should be fine.
There are no gas stations on the Bear Tooth or Chief Joseph Hwys.
I did the exact opposite direction a few years back.
Sounds like u r doing your homework well.....WX wise and all. GREAT ride.
Sadly, it is so GORGEOUS and the road is not one you want to take your eyes off of, it is hard to look up and around at the GORGEOUS mountains as the road turns/twists a lot.
From Red Lodge I think it is 212 (Bear Tooth) then 296 Chief Joseph. (I can dbl check the Chief Jos. if u would like for me to.)
When yo are in Red Lodge, The Pollack Hotel is the BEST place there to stay IMHO. The rooms are all small but it is really nice there.
And get this, my friend; as you step out of the hotel, look off to your LEFT diagonally across the street. You will see an old movie theater, it has a marquee and all. If u go in there, they have BAZILLION amount of CANDY like u NEVER EVER saw.
I think they call it the Candy Emporium. Freaking WOW!!!
Hey, take PIXs and come back n post them here ok mate? <-- Just asking.
You are in for a TERRIFIC ride. Glacier National, etc.....WAY to go!
There is also more to do out there as you likely know being so close to Yellowstone etc...
I can't speak towards Beartooth, but the Glacier Park part of your plan is a great ride! I grew up near Glacier and the Going to the Sun highway is an amazing ride! Very busy in the summer, but the views are spectacular.

It is spectacular I agree. Believe it or not, Beartooth is more rugged and scenic than Glacier.
