Default Trip Planners?

Ive been contemplating taking a long road trip on my bike for the 4th of July to visit my parents. They live about 400 miles away.

So far my longest ride has been about 30 miles, so this will be the ultimate test of my riding capabilities.

So, I thought I would ask for advice such as: what to expect on such a long trip, how long should I ride, how often should I stop. What essentials should I bring with me. Where to find a road trip planner that will allow me to adjust stops by range.

My bike has only a 2.2 gal tank, so my range is limited to about 125miles between fillups, but I havent found a resource online that I can factor that into where I am riding. I dont want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere out of gas, lol.

Thanks again for any and all help.

Go to Google > Maps and click on "Get Directions" on the left. Type in your starting city and your destination city and click on the button to get the directions. Google defaults to the fastest route, but you can left click on the route line and drag it to a different road if you want. There's a scale so you can estimate the distance between towns so you can plan your fuel stops. 400 miles really isn't that long of a ride, so just take a 10-15 minute break at your fuel stops, drink a bottle of water and move on. Good luck.

Mapquest has a drop down that will show you gas stations.
Mapquest your route.
Determine how far you are comfortable riding before you need a fuel stop
Look at the closest exit
Hit the dropdown for fuel stop

When you are done, your mapquest or GPS will have start location, waypoint addresses that correlate to the gas stations, and destination location.

Maybe before you go 400 miles, take a day ride and run through a tank of gas and see how you feel. 2.2 gal tank, you riding a Sporty. Put some miles on it and check for comfort. Google maps is your friend, or mapquest.

Shane, a 400 mile day ride is not uncommon for a seasoned rider. Your fuel stops should give you a good break every 2 hrs or so. Go to this website and read all you can and tap into their links. www.touringdepot.com

Next weekend I am riding 762 miles to see my parents as well. This will be my longest ride in one day. I've done 500 miles before with no problem. I've traveled the route many times by car so it's not gonna be unfamiliar. No real scenic drive, I'll be on I-35 the whole trip.
Essentials for me: Ipod, Few clothes, jacket, rain gear if I had some. Gotta put my sissy bar back on and my cup holder.
I only plan on stopping for fuel, downing a bottle of water, stretch the legs, and back at it. Should be a 13-14 hour ride with those stops. CAN'T WAIT!
