Get there early and take your time. I did it on my Streetglide and it was incredible!! Plan on pulling over to take pictures a lot. The visitor's center at the halfway point will probably be very crowded and busy. Plan on taking your own lunch.
You might not find a place to park the car if you get up to the top much after 10 am..... drive both ways from one end to the other.... take some walking shoes and do a hike up at the top.
Last time i was there i was riding in my parent's car with a full length leg cast. My dad ( who'd had a Vincent Black Shadow and a Triumph Speed Twin when i was born- I think i was the reason he sold them ).said something to my mom that i can only really remember hearing him say once: "This would be so much fun on the Vincent". Until then, i'd had no idea what a Black Shadow was, or that Dad had had one. That's the day that began a new sense of guilt that still kinda hans on whenever i think about it.
Turns out Mom wrecked the Triumph, but me being the reason Dad sold the Vincent is just not right. I mean, i didn't sell MY bike when MY son was born.....
Take a dip in Lake McDonald. My first day there last year in August it hit 100. The next day I wore a jacket till noon. That is the day I went swimming. It was cold getting in, but really nice once I was in.
Went on a long riding tour with my buddies. Eight bikes and 10 people. Went in late July. When we got up in the morning it was in the mid 50s at our hotel. It had snowed in the mountains the night before. We put on all the clothes we could find. They had the roads cleared by the time we got up there but it was still chilly.
After doing the GTTS road go to Many Glacier area of the park. We enjoyed the East side more than the West. If you have time bring your passport and go to Waterton NP in Canada. It not to far away.
