Looking for suggestions on good roads to ride in eastern Oklahoma. I have 5 days scheduled off starting the 22nd of May and will be traveling from Kearney, NE southbound non-interstate. Also seeking input on local hotels, food stops and watering holes. This will be a solo trip so I have the freedom to schedule as I please. Two years ago I rode from Talihina, OK to Mena, AR and will likely repeat those roads. Thanks in advance for suggestions.
Those of us who live in the region don't plan our lives around tornado season. It is what it is because it is also the best riding season for the area.
Here is a good place to start. I am near Tulsa and have ridden all 5 of these. Im more familiar with the NE part of the state.
A few others -
New Prue Road west of Tulsa to Cleveland. I rode this one today after work, beautiful scenery and I saw a bald eagle near the lake. Watch for gravel in some of the turns if it has rained recently.
Highway 62 east of Tahlequah into Arkansas.
Alt 412 (not the turnpike) from Inola to Siloam Springs. Stop at Natural Falls State Park for a nice break and short hike to the falls.
For the best barbecue anywhere stop by Trails End in Owasso.
Not to steal the thread but curious if the Talimena Scenic Byway has been resurfaced in the last 5 years? Last time I rode it the surface was pretty rough!
