Another super day. Just riding back roads of East Texas around Tyler and Palestine.
Posted a similar picture in another thread. This fellow chilling out on his Gold Wing. Honked and rode on.
Down the back roads and through Montalba. This was the local general store, back in the day.
My day rides are getting shorter, not able as I used to be health wise, but I love to take the trip I took this past Friday. Started in southeastern Ky and rode across the Smokies to Cherokee NC for my favorite Reuben Sandwich at The Front Porch Cakery and Deli owned by some great folk, Ben and Missy.
Its a beautiful ride.
My parents originally are from Maryville. Have been all around that area. Mountains have such beauty. I'm 66 so I understand where you are coming from. Rides are not what they used to be, so get them in while you can. haha. Thanks for sharing and the memories.
Wife gone, it's me time today. Made little loop : Jacksonville, Longview, Big Sandy, Tyler area mostly on back roads. Usual stop at Love's Lookout North of Jacksonville. If you're in the area, check it out.
View was pretty hazy. Here's the rest / lunch stop.
Another view. Wished it wasn't hazy. View is spectacular!
Since I was on an adventure, I took my ol' trusty Harley Pan Texas Adventure steed.
Got caught in a heavy 20 mile rain storm I wasn't prepared for. But all is good. Just rolled on.
robarosa....lived in the Tyler/Longview area for several years and loved riding those FM and state roads, even a few county roads. Not making this up, but years ago in the winter there used to be a somewhat popular, little ski hill south of Jacksonville, Texas. Man-made snow of course but rock skis required. Weekend putts up to SE Oklahoma were terrific, too. I think many here would be surprised how scenic some of that is. Thanks for posting about your ride.
