Default changing oil on the road

Taking around a 5000 mile trip out to California, and was thinking I should change my oil around Eureka or Fort Bragg, didn't really want to go to a dealer to have it done, Anyone have any suggestions as how or where to do it? I would prefer to do it myself, if possible. What is the closest dealer around there?
Thanks

If you are riding 5,000 miles, change it before you leave, and when you return. Your bike won’t implode if you miss the change interval once by a few 100 miles.

I used a cut out 5qt to drain into, you can probly find one at the autoparts store where you can lot change it.
Then leave the old with them.

Bring a filter with you and buy the oil wherever is convenient. Find a shade tree in the parking lot to park under. Like was mentioned cut up an antifreeze jug or whatever for a drip pan. Most auto parts stores will take the old oil for free.

Why add potential for a disaster to your trip? If it were me and my luck it would be the one time the drain plug stripped out or the filter was stuck on and then I'd be screwed out in no man's land. Like trigeezer said, change it before you head out and check it once in awhile. Keep it simple.

I've had my oil changed 3 times while on long trips. One of them I did myself outside of a Walmart service center. They loaned me a pan and took the old oil but that was on a duel sport with plenty of clearance.
The other 2 were on Electra Glides and with the low clearance, funky way the filter drains all over the place I just bit the bullet and found a shop. They soak it to you but if you're going to go over by a bunch you're kind of stuck.
Tried to do the same on tires but when they're gone what can you do?

Yeah I suppose you can push it to 5000 but I olny have 1150 on the oil now and also I think S&S says something like every 2500. I know that is a little crazy, but I was thinking maybe every 3500. If this wasn't a new S&S 124 I would probably let it go too. Just got too much into this to take a chance.

Just a thought then. Since you have a new motor and you are concerned about it, why not contact S&S and tell them what you just told us and see what they have to say.
