Default Lake Michigan

Did my first ride around Lake Michigan. Like many of my rides I rode solo. I had been thinking of doing a loop around the lake for years but weather or other things kept me from doing it. This year the days I arranged for my latest ride aligned with perfect weather. I did 370 miles the first day, 480 on day two and the last 130 this morning. Northern Wisconsin is always nice and the UP is great and has a unique feel. This was my first time in northern Michigan (not counting the UP) and was surprised how beautiful it was. Just fantastic. The Mackinac bridge was awesome except for the grates. Those sucked. Felt like the bike was flip down.

I highly recommend this ride. Next time I would do 3 nights. I was just so excited and enjoying myself so much I pushed myself especially on the second day.

Well if you do the Mackinac bridge stay away from the grates. I've seen videos of other bikers riding on them without a problem but for me it made me feel like the bike was going to slide out from under me. I'm sure it wasn't but it was not a good feeling. I tried to avoid the grates but very slow moving traffic in the right lane made me move over a couple of times. Otherwise, it was a cool experience. I hope you enjoy it.

I just did it as well. The worst part of the whole trip was from new buffalo to Chicago. Of course I took the less beaten path there but everything else was great. Took off from the hog rally on Sunday and made it to Grand Prairie, Wisconsin on the first day. The second day was from there to the soo. With a stop at the museum. Fantastic trip.

The grate is part of the "magic" of the bridge ... It's really exciting when there is a traffic backup and you're stopped on the grating while a ship is passing underneath ... Only then can you experience just how much the bridge sways in the breeze ... Truly a "moving" experience :>)

The grating isn’t all that bad. Just slow down and kinda let the bike find its way.
