Default Rapid City to Salt Lake City

Planning a trip starting in Rapid City and ending in Salt Lake City. Do the Sturgis thing and head either to Red Lodge or Cody then on to Yellowstone and Jackson. Fly out of Salt Lake. Have one week. Need routes, lodging and must sees. Thanks

You could take 212 and I-90 from Sturgis, stay in Red Lodge, then run Bear Tooth Highway, Lamar Valley in YNP, then out East entrance, stay in Cody. Then back into YNP next day and down through the South entrance and Tetons, stay in Jackson. Then Highway 89 South to Salt Lake City.

Can't help you too much with lodging; I usually camp. Sometimes KOA, sometimes off the road in National Forest or something. If you are into it, both Red Lodge and Cody have a KOA. There is a KOA south of Jackson, but I never use it; I just stay off the road somewhere.

If you want to get down to details, let me know. I live just outside SLC, and ride those routes frequently.

I've taken 14, 14A and 16 across the Big Horns and would recommend those routes to any one going that way route. Not much on I-90 to that point and I haven't traveled 212 in that area.

212 and I-90 would just be the fastest means from Sturgis to Red Lodge. The Big Horns are a fantastic ride through. Deadwood would be cool, then meandering West and North up through the Devils Tower area, etc.
