Looking for some wisdom - route, campground and/or hotel, food, (summer) events....anything you can tell me that shouldn't be missed. Coming from central MA, I've done the Portland to Bangor via route 1, don't really want to spend that much time on the slow road. Planning on spending Friday and Saturday night on the road, or in Lubec, but not sure where. My biggest fear is a big festival just because I picked the wrong weekend, and missing it, lol! Help me dream a little....it's winter, after all.
Not sure where in central Mass you reside, but you could do 93 to rt 2 in NH then rt 2 across to Bangor --that,s about a 8 hr ride. you can do Bar Harbor [Acadia] for a visit if you haven't been there--rt1 to Lubec is slow and boring, but so are the other roads[ rt 9] There's a lobster festival in Rockland in the summer https://10times.com/maine-lobster-festival. Live bands in Bangor.https://www.google.com/search?client...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 ----There is bike week in Laconia---give us an idea of how long[how many days] you plan on

Planning on a mental health day on Friday and Saturday night somewhere. I'd guess Friday maybe Bangor and Sat in Lubec. I've done Rt 1 from Freeport, took a left in Ellsworth to get to Bangor. That's a long, slow, stop and go road in the Summah... Bike week - nah, been there done that. Appreciate the info!
Family or friend in Lubec? not much there -Campobello Island is a nice visit --going through Machias you should stop at Helen's restaurant for a piece of pie---You can camp at the island I believe, looks like you.ll be doing a lot of miles in 3 days---enjoy
Lol - just looking to say I've been the most East I can be. "Journey is the destination" style. Cabin fever is taking over right now.
Couple years ago, I had a 500 mile, one day beer run to Hill Farmstead just to say I'd been. I might need to do some more research, or head towards ADK, Niagra, or Fingerlakes.
Second thought - I'm going to give the HD tourcard a shot this year. First time hearing about it, but it will give me some ideas about where to go. Caribou is going to be a stretch!
Last summer, I took 202 all the way from near Bangor, Maine to Leverett, Massachusetts. It was a very nice route. This was our Grand Tour of the USA and we took two lanes everywhere we could. But picking 202 and sticking with it was a good choice for us.
If I was leaving the Springfield, Mass area headed for Lubec, I'd use it again. Cheap nice motels, lots of road with little traffic, very nice towns.
But I'm from Idaho. (I did grow up in Maine, but it had been 40 years since I'd ridden there.) Therefore, I'm no expert on those roads. That said, of the 7000 plus miles of two lanes, 202 was very enjoyable, and we saw the whole country from roads like this.
Small world - I grew up on 202 right next to Quabbin, always a ton of bikes due to exactly what you said - beautiful road, not a lot of traffic. That said, I had no idea 202 went all the way to Bangor and beyond, lol.
