Heading to New Orleans this summer. Anything we must see or do while down there? What about places to eat? Route will be over to Chicago, down through Louisville, Nashville, Lynchburg, Montgomery, Pensacola and west.

Thanks in advance.

Chargirlled oysters at Acme Oyster house are amazing! If you can get past the ****, vomit, drug addicts and winos that are passed out on the sidewalks all over town and that's during the day in the middle of the week, nights and weekends can get kind of sketchy. Also, you need to know where your shoes are, the correct answer is on your feet and the street your are on. Enjoy.

Good one on the shoes comment. Sanders are a pass for NOLA if in the quarter IMO.

But I'd say check out the WWII museum. It was pretty awesome. We never made it to the Confederate Army museum.

My wife like cooking so did the New Orleans school of cooking class. She still raves about it. And it sound like I should have joined and just been a tester.

Bourbon street is cool and a party most times but just watch yourself and loved ones. My wife may have been drugged when she got a Pepsi.

Some dude wanted to shine my sandals. That was at the waterfront park. Just keep walking as no is apparently a foreign concept to that particular person.

We did a swamp tour and it was quite enjoyable. Lots of alligators and the tour guide fed them marshmallows to lure them closer.

Have a great time. Be safe. Bring rain gear. (Worst rain I've ever hit was summer 2013 in NOLA.).

Grove Rat gives good advice. I’ll only add be extra, extra vigilant on your bike. IMO, NOLA is one of the worst metro areas in which to be on a motorcycle. Good news....there is no finer food in the US...

You’ll love the food. Most anywhere. Only drink I order is beer in the bottle. After 2 nights you are ready to leave.
My favorite restaurant Muriel’s on Jackson Square. https://muriels.com/

I worked on the west bank over Huey P Long Bridge. Westwego. Mostly Cajuns but great food. Swamp tours.
Places I ate lunch As well as other shrimp and crawdad shacks.

Eggie, thought of something else not mentioned yet. Take a walk through one of those cemeteries you’ll see. Unlike anything you’ve seen. Over the years I travelled South Louisiana on business trips and always enjoyed the diverse, fun-loving folks I came across. I suspect you’ll experience the same.

Oceanna Grill is one of our favorites. Convenient and not to expensive. But there are a lots of good eats. We enjoy hanging out for a little in the Piano Bar at Pat Obrien's. You've got to have a Hurricane or two. And Café Du Monde for some beignets. The Red Door and Razoo's can be fun. If you drink beer, you need two friends. Beer is usually three for one in the afternoons.

Someone mentioned the Cemeteries. I have heard only go to them on a guided tour.

Yes, The WW II museum is good. We ate lunch at the restaurant there. Hot roast beef was great.

Cemetary walk is a must do. Same for the Garden district. The WWII and Confederate museum's are cool! The Confederate one is cool to see the other side. Lot of antique stores selling museum quality stuff. Amazing. Obrians is a must go too for nightlif e. Let us know what you do and pics.

I used to live in Hattiesburg, MS in the mid-late 80s and went to New Orleans many times. Also went down in 2004 with some buddies. The French Quarter is unique in the USA and must-do. I always loved Pat O'Brien's on St. Peter Street (photo below with buddies). Jackson Square is cool as well as the French Market. Just wander around. Cool place.
