Update, decided on Fort Stockton for the lay over from Amarillo. Decided it was worth the extra 100 miles to be closer to Big Bend the next morning. Thinking in the morning head towards Presidio and enter the park form the West heading towards Terlingua for two nights. Going to be my birthday the next day, seems like a good place to be when turning 50.
Next leg is Terlingua to Corpus, hugging the Mexican border. Del Rio is half way, seems like a lot of nothing at say 350 miles from Terlingua. Any suggestions or recommendation for making it a 2 day ride to Corpus?
Again, thanks all around for the information.
You have a lot of options.
Going from Del Rio to Corpus is about 5 hours unless you want to stop in San Antonio on the way.
In my opinion, I would skip Corpus if you are going to go to Galveston. Galveston has much, much more to offer.
One route from Del Rio is to San Antonio where you can tour the Alamo and River Walk - then head NNW through the Texas Hill Country to Fredericksburg - Cranky Franks BBQ is there - I've never eaten there but heard it is good. From Fredericksburg you can go East to Austin - lots to see in Austin. From Austin, there are 2 highways to Houston - US 290 or TX 71. US 290 will take you to the NW side of Houston whereas TX 71 will take you to I-10 which enters the West side of Houston.
Another route from Del Rio, if you want to skip San Antonio, is to go NNW on US 377 then East on TX 29 and South on US 183 - that will take you through the Texas Hill Country to Austin. It's lots of riding miles and a pretty ride. You are looking at 5 hours of riding from Del Rio to Austin, so if you want to stop somewhere and have a look around, you will need to plan for that.

You will want to fill up at every pee break. Sometimes it is a ways to a station.
If it's not too late, you can stay in Alpine TX at the Highland Inn for $55 a night. Just tell Sam I sent ya. It is centrally located and has grocery stores, a McDonald's, a nice diner and the motel is clean and usually quiet.

Excellent choice. The Gage Hotel in Marathon would make a fine stop for breakfast, less than an hour south of Fort Stockton.
So here is a map of my general route as currently thought out, we will be coming in from NM heading towards Amarillo.
1- Looking for advice on the route, particularity from Amarillo to Big Bend NP and then Corpus Christi.
Thanks in advance to all that will contribute.
Is there a particular reason you're going to/through Amarillo? You could go from Ranchos De Taos to Roswell, NM to see the alien museum there, and go on down to Carlsbad Caverns, NM, before going on to Big Bend. Just some other sites to see along the way.
Agree with this. And better steaks than the Big Texan.
Agreed...
Last time I rode to Palo Duro, I had a friend with me that wanted to stop at Big Texan. I had been there before, but we stopped anyway. The place is cool to see and experience, but my steak was terrible. I'm Texan, and consider myself an excellent cook, including steaks, and I was extremely disappointed to say the least.

Listen to this man! Avoid Midland Odessa at all costs. Not trying to pry into your vacation route, but consider this ^^.
But....:If you stay true to your current route try and plan a stop in Lubbock at Cooks Garage. Google it its worth the stop and its on 87 South headed outta town.

OP already addressed Midland /Odessa point. Hes not going there. Who sang that song about Lubbock in the rear view mirror?😀
My wife can cook better than any place we have been. As with a lot of home grill masters, I can grill a pretty mean steak myself, better than anywhere we have been, and what others have said. Fish... not so good. We just go to places for different favor and experience. More fun than the meal. So, swing in the Texan. Neat place to visit and get some photos taken. I'll go back when in the neighborhood.
Fort Stockton is okay for lay over, Mostly a trucker's stop on the interstate. Well... most of those towns waaayyy out there are trucker's stop on the interstate. : )

I was looking at his original map. Looked like he was gonna pass through there on his way to Ft Stockton.. The traffic around Odessa and Midland are worth trying to miss..
