Default Interstate highway 2 ????

Any one ever take highway 2 from Minnesota thru North Dakota and then to GLACIER NATIONAL PARK in Montana ???? Looking at taking this on our trip at the end of august beginning of september . We are not in a rush and do not want to travel on super highways . From Glacier we are heading south thru many parks and then New Mexico . After that we will head back to N.J. THANKS

I've traveled it from Michigan over to Havre Montana. You'll travel through a lot of small towns. It's a U.S. route, not an interstate so it's much slower traveling but you'll see much more. There's different places to stop along the way so allot time for that. If you like seeing small town America, you're in for a treat. Glacier is a great destination, in my opinion one of the most beautiful national parks.
Oh, you mentioned getting there in September. Remember, Glacier is in the Rockies, depending on what the weather is like there could be snow in Glacier and you won't be allowed on the Going to the Sun highway. I tried to go through in JULY one year and the road was closed because of excessive snow that season. You would get routed around the road that goes south of the park, which happens to be U,S. 2.

Went through Glacier in late July in 2014. The night before it snowed up there.

In Duluth spend a couple hours and drive the Skyline Parkway, pick it up at I 35 and S Boundary Ave and follow it NE. You'll see spectacular views of the harbor and Lake Superior and it's not much of a detour from your route.

Canal Park is also cool especially if you can see a Lakes Freighter pass through under the lift bridge.

I did that route at Christmas time in my jeep… Except reversed it, from Whitefish to Minot… Very Straight Road, .. not much there… I would think heading west You’ll be bucking wind all the way…

We did it in 2013 from Glacier NP all the way to Michigan UP.

We loved it, speed limit was 65 MPH in most places, no one on the road but us. Towns are about 50 miles apart, so you can blast by yourself for a while, slow down for the one horse town, then repeat. Most of the towns had fuel. Only issue we had was Eastern Montana up that way is very, very hotel deprived. I would suggest stopping in Williston ND for the night, then next day get across Montana. Teddy Roosevelt NP south of Williston was a good detour, except for the previously mentioned lack of hotels. Overall, we loved that route. I did not feel we lost any time VS the interstate and no trucks, no cars, just us. We did race a passenger train for about an hour on the track running parallel to 2, that was cool. Would do it again.

Rode 2 from Glacier back into Michigan about 7 yrs ago, never a problem finding gas. Speed limit 65 so slower than the interstate, although in ND got passed by a guy doing a 100 mph on a Harley ( caught up with him in next town ) local guy who said as long as you don't speed thru the little towns the cops pretty much leave you alone, but wouldn't bet my lunch money on it.

All in all a fun ride, great thing about it was I didn't have to look at my map all the way home, just stayed on 2 all the way to the Mackinac Bridge.

One thing though it can be windy across Montana and ND.

haha that's funny. I was on RT20 in Nebraska and it was just me and the bike in the middle of nowhere. The tracks were maybe 3-500 yrds from the road and I would pass long freight trains heading in the opposite direction and i'd throw my hand out like i was passing another biker and 4/5 of them would hit the horn a few times back to say hey. I thought that was pretty cool.

I can only imagine how "tourist" on the train took pictures of us while we were racing, good memories.
