Default Cruising the North West

Took wife for her first long cruise, she has only been on this bike twice, and the Goldwing i had before, once or twice, sold it years ago, just never had time for another bike. she bought this one for a birthday present. Yee haw.
so she said yes to a road trip on the bike, her first!!! . down Washington and Oregon coast. great views and with covid going on, not that much traffic. stopped in Coos Bay the dealer ship gals there are great, made the wife feel right at home. then to Crescent City. windy the whole way, more than usual, on to Cali, then the Red Woods. if you haven't seen them.... DO,, those "F ing Trees are HUGE". then over the hump toward Reno, Winnemucca, Elko,
Mountain Home ID. Boise, Nampa, Baker City, with Lay overs in Reno and Baker City. rode into Hells Canyon Area, nice views and great Brews And Grub in Halfway. if you don't know what I'm talking about "go there"
Baker City is a destination unto itself, cheap rooms and interesting art work thru out the town.... and good food in the bars. ( I'm sure there's good food elsewhere) Left Baker City on the 4 th.. filled up in Pendleton, when you go thru Yakima, FILL UP there.... made it to Ellensburg and didn't have to turn bike off.. put in 5.042 gallons of gas in a 5 gallon tank. Ask wife after a few brew's if my aggressive driving at times bothered her.... she said no... but the wind gust over at the coast took us into oncoming scared the hell out of her. so i ask if she want to do another... she said she would like to do the Needles in South Dakota on the bike instead of the car. I told her i would like to go to the factory, all she said was how far is it...... guess I'll keep her. By the way
2094 miles for her first trip.
Regards,
M

I was really surprised with her. she's not much of a complainer, but she wants more of it, so she must be good with it.
she gets to pick the fall trip... Fly to Vegas, after a week on our boat in Puget sound.. and she cooks!!!!!!!!!

The wife and I plan on taking the SG from Bremerton Washington down to Fresno mid August. I am trying to talk her into taking 101 but she thinks the heat will be too much in August. She wants to ride at night and sleep through the day and take I-5. Kind of defeats the whole point of the trip. I should get her to read your post see if it changes her mind.

101 isn't the nicest ride that time of year... the tourist and local traffic really sucks. But with that said, if you get an early start, as in be on the road no later than 7 a.m. and we try to stick to 6 hours a day . unless traffic is hauling *** and all is good. that gets you to motel or park by 1 P.M. for a cold beer or a dip in something cool.
we traveled from Lincoln city to Cresent city Ca. 258 miles and averaged 38 Miles and hour. that is with3 long stops for gas lunch and pictures, But all in all we where ok with the long day. we messed around a lot,
if you have plans in Fresno i would take I-5 and Haul *** then enjoy your stay. ANd do day trips out of there. just a thought. what are you riding?

You said SG Street Glide DUH!! we where on an older Ultra Classic, with full bags and extra baggage, and it is still like cruising your "Comfy couch" down the freeway.

I talked the wife into going on 101 for Washington and part of Oregon. Washington and Oregon don't really have bad traffic on 101. The bottom line is I really like the Oregon coast.

Update- The wife has a sister in Yuba City that just got diagnosed with cancer. She wants to include Yuba city into the trip. I have no idea where that is but from all the stories it's a weird combination of farmland and desert. You can't drink the water and meth is a real problem... I would say no way but it's family and it's cancer. I don't suppose anyone knows any good rides around Yuba City?

And yeah, I'm taking my 2011 Street Glide.
