I'll be passing through Nashville TN the second week in Oct. (Saturday evening) coming South on 24 and going East on 40. Looking for information on overnight stay, areas to avoid, suggested area to stay. We will be using Travelocity for hotel/motel stay. My main concerns are safety. Not looking to do any night life as its going to be a long day ride getting there.
I'm no expert on Nashville, but the half dozen times I've ridden/driven through it, the traffic was terrible. Unless there is something in Nashville itself that you want to see, I'd suggest one of the many GON2L (Good Old Numbered 2 Lanes) that go around the north side of the city, and then stay in Lebanon which is just east of Nashville. I've stayed in Lebanon several times. Plenty of hotels along the interstate so in the morning you can get on the road quickly and avoid rush hour traffic. This link to Google Maps shows a route I've taken several times. It's about 30/45 minutes longer than going through Nashville...assuming you don't get stuck in stop and go traffic in the city. Just my 2 cents.
If you want to stay close to downtown, stay at the Hampton Inn...Its not cheap but its close to all. This of course depends on if and what is open....With all bars closed it can be quite boring...
and expensive.
I'd recommend going farther east also.
I've stayed at the motel at the Gordonsville/Carthage exit (can't remember the number a couple of tmes and there's fuel and food nearby and it's just a "hop, skip and a jump" to the dealership in Cookeville if you need anything.
I stayed close to downtown Nashville 5 years ago and it was questionable at bewst then and I cant imagine that it has improved with all that is going on these days.
SAFE..??? In Nashville...? If you're riding...Only if you have a place to roll the bike into and lock it up. However you are travelling...get through town before stopping. Like someone already suggested...keep North, go AROUND Nashville to the East. At least to Lebanon.
Yeah, if you are not into the music scene I see no reason to stop in Nashville. Even if you were into it, it is shutdown. I am a musician and went through there to catch acts and shop the music stores on our way to the Rolex in Kentucky. We left after one day and I must say it was not quite what I expected.
