I rode the Trace a couple of years ago in the month of March with 6 other bikes. We were about a month too early though and it was cold and rainy. Stopped at the Loveless cafe. It was a great time. Thanks for sharing.
Can I useGatlinburg for three nights as a base toride tothe Rode the Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway andSmokiesfromGatlinburg on separate days?
Thanks
Walter
I think you could. The deal is that Gatlinburg is on the opposite end of the Great Smokey Mtn National Park from Cherohala and the Dragon is kind of inbetween them. You may want to make ita long day (probably a little over 200 miles round trip) and do both in the same day. You will probably want to do the Dragon more than once. It's only 11 miles so you can ride through it about three times in about an hour or so and then head to the Skyway. The Cherohala Skyway runs between Robbinsville NC to Tellico Plains TN with the better part on the NC side.
A lot of people make Robbinsville their place to stay. It would be easier to break them up into separate rides that way.
The Dragon is crawling with LEOs right now (we counted 10) and a lot of people are complaining about getting pulled over for nothing and hasseled. We had one follow us about halfway through but they didn't stop us. We just kept to the speed limit and didn't cross the double yellow and no problems.
Here are a few pictures that I took while on the Trace back in Labor Day weekend. It is a beautiful ride. The max. speed is about 50 mph but the view is spectacular. Would love to do this trip again. We went from Natchez, MS to Tupola, MS. There is a HD stop about midway in Jackson. Great place to stretch your feet and look around. The people were very nice.
See you guys on the road.....
Hey Wjvins, I just got back from that area. I rode the dragon twice and the Cherahala skyway and then rode to cinncinati that same day, But anyhow we stayed at a nice little resort 3 mile south of the tail of the dragon called the Tapoco lodge. Very nice place, Good food. Very friendly people, and best of all THEY HAVE BEER. LOL.... Those are all dry counties around there. Hope this helps
Hey Bug, Sorry about getting off the subject of your thread. Those are some beautiful pictures. The wife and i are gonna take that ride through the trace next year. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks again for the pictures
