We are planning on doing the Trace next summer on the way to Florida to ride the Keys. Can't wait! It loooks like a great road to ride.
Phil
That should be one awesome ride!I haven't done the Trace yet, but will do so soon. Your gonna' LOVE the Key West ride.I did it back in 93 and can't wait to return.
Bug, those are some beautiful pictures! From someone who grew up just a few miles from the Trace in Central Mississippi, I can honestly say you did us proud with those pictures. For anyone who's never been on the Trace.....it's a beautiful stretch of highway. There are still a lot of the Choctaw people living in the Philadelphia/Neshoba County area of Mississippi. I'm not sure what shape Ratliff's Ferry is in now, but it used to be a pretty cool place to hang out back in the day. (when I was in my teens)
I've never been end-to-end on the Trace, but hope to take that trip with my husband at the first opportunity.
The friends that we met and rode to Ratliff's Ferry with told us that it burned down a few years ago and they rebuilt it. We were there on Sunday and there were quite a few bikes there. Here are a couple more photos of it.
Hey Bug,
Thanks for posting pics. Ratliff Ferry is about 8 miles from my house. We had a permanent camp up there for about 4 years before the old store burned down. Many great memories, fun filled days, and WILD nights, glad you enjoyed the ride. Shoot me a pm or email if any of you guys are coming thru this area in the future.
Tail of the Dragon, Go south out of Gatlinburg on 441, in about two miles out of Gatlinburg, take aright on little river road, be careful easy to miss, uses same entrance into a rest area. Take little river road to the top of the dragon, take dragon to hwy 28 go east on hwy 19 to 414, 414 goes back to Gatlinburg, great ride. Ride the dragon during the week, on the weekend to many rice burners, watch out behind you---seriously!!! When heading north on 441 some of the road going though the tunnels have pot holes be careful.
You might consider staying in Maggie valley, do the dragon same as I mentioned basically, next day get on the Blueridge parkway go to 215, 215 is a great road, take it to 64 go east, in rosman get on 178 , 178 almost as good as the dragon, take it to hwy 11 in south carolina, go east on 11 to 276, take 276 back to maggie valley.
If you are not curved out, go to Hot springs the next day.
Gatlinburg is just a tourist trap but is central to what you originally ask, Maggie is cheaper.
Oh---There are some hotels on little river road, one of the best steak houses is also on that road, there is nothing else
Wow, what a great road! A group of us rode this over Memorial Day weekend, we started just south of Nashville and rode to Natchez. \\;This was my first road trip on my own bike and it was awesome. \\; This road is what riding a motorcycle is all about. After riding the interstates, you get on the Trace and its just \\;relaxing. There are no worries (except for the occasional wildlife), just kick back and ride. \\; We met some great people at a little gas station on the Trace (can't remember the mile marker) and ended up meeting up with them in New Orleans. (By the way, they are closing that little gas station in the next few weeks). I can't wait to ride the Trace again in the Fall, I can only imagine how beautiful it will be.
I ride mothe Trace about twice a year and I need to know if that gas station that is closing is the Tishimingo exit off the Trace. I \\;top off at shell station beside Loveless there in Nashville and make it to Tishimingo( barely). Please let me know.
