Default Alaska - Going Solo.

What is the latest in riding SOLO into Alaska say from Blaine, Washington. (State of Washington.)

Going to Anchorage.
Going to the Arctic Circle.
Going to Prince Rupert (to take the ferry to Ketchikan).

Point is...........is traveling into and back from AK safe SOLO.

1. Bears.
2. Places to stay.
3. Fuel.
4. Cell Service? (Rent a satellite phone?)
5. Breakdown.
6. Etc....

I am not looking for specific information necessarily on the above (though it is welcome) but I am more looking for the general overall idea of going solo.

As always my friends, THANK YOU in advance.

I think a trek like that should not be done solo. To many thing that can go wrong. I know in other threads, correct me if I'm wrong, you have said your not much for working on your bike, if that is how you plan to travel. I'd go with you though, LOL. (That way when you, or me, breaks down you'd have company.) I'm sure others here who have traveled near and far will give you some good advice. When are you planning on going ? Good luck.

I suggest getting your buns on the saddle and giddyup! I did it round trip solo and know plenty of people that have and had no issues. Only things I can recommend is to take at least twice as much money as you think you'll need and buy a current copy of "Mile Post" for the Al-Can.

If you go to Ketchikan, stop by Burger Queen (if it's still there) and order the Halibut burger. It was located just outside the tunnel on the north bound side of the road.

Have fun and be sure to have a good camera with you.

Also. If you cross at Blaine, you can stay in BC and catch the ferry at Prince Rupert but I think you'd find it much more memorable to cross at say, Sweet Grass and go through the Columbia Ice Fields. Just my opinion of course.Just make sure to get your ferry reservation in as early as you can.

Just do it. Pack accordingly. Carry a gun and plenty of cash. And people have been doing it long before they had cell phones. Enjoy!

You won't get that firearm across the Canadian border if you plan on riding up.

We're planning to go in '22 after we get moved and settled in later this year. I recall getting some good info about it here a couple years back.

Big ***** - what an awesome trip that would be! I’d be hesitant to do it solo myself, but I’ve read plenty of stories of those who have and lived to tell about it.

I’ve always wanted to do that trip myself, and likely will in the next few years, but it may be in a cage due to all of the uncertainties (I’m a puss, I suppose!). If I did that, I’d probably trailer the bike so I could at least ride some (again, *****!).

OP - I hope you can do it and tell us all about it when the journey is complete!

Get a Garmin Inreach. Handy to have in areas with no cell service.
