I ran out of fuel once with one of my semi‘s… And that was back in the Day of mechanical fuel injectors… So even once you have fuel you have to bleed the system out… I hitchhiked into town, got a 5 gallon jug full of diesel, hitchhiked back out to the truck… Bleed the injectors, started the truck & had enough fuel to get to the closest pumps… There’s four hours of my life I’ll never get back for being downright stupid.

I start looking for fuel when the gauge reads half.

I never trust a fuel gauge. I go by the odometer. On my 2012 the miles remaining seems pretty accurate.

I have always kept a $20 bill in my tour pack, but a better back up is the app BPme. It is a phone app that lets you pay at any Amoco or BP with Bluetooth. 5cent/gallon discount too. I like it because I don’t have to take my wallet out of my tour pack.

I have never traveled out West, where you have to plan carefully. I would be hesitant to carry extra fuel. Gas is dangerous stuff. I have met people with hideous burns from gasoline fires. I am curious to see if see if any one recommends a safe container for motorcycle saddlebags.

And don't just count on credit cards. Twice in my life the pumps I frequent had internet/phone line issues and for that moment the pumps were pay inside / cash only (at 5:45 a.m. on the way to work of course.)

Ron, Google up "Reda gas can" .....holds about a gallon and designed to fit in the saddlebag......

This quote made me laugh. I lived in Calgary 2 years, then 12 years later took a rode trip on the Harley up through Alberta, BC, Yukon, and Alaska. In reminded me that in Canada you can buy any kind of fuel you want. You'll be getting 87 octane regular unleaded....but you can buy whatever you want!

Around town a single bottle will do...on long treks thru the backcountry I'll carry both just in case **** happens. Beats walking.
Man, you got something against gas stations? Carry a single bottle in town??
