My wife and I made a trip to Michigan to experience the Mackinac Bridge. Of course we also rode the Tunnel of Trees after having lunch at Legs Inn.
And yes, we had a pastie in St Ignace.
It was a great trip.
Here is a link to a video of the ride over the Mackinac Bridge :
THAT is 1 of my favorite things to do. But the other way around. South to north.
ALWAYS go the Ice Cream place in St Ignace (beside the chamber of commerce) and go across the street and watch the ferry plumes high into the sky go out to the island.
LOVED IT SO MUCH, I brought my wife on 1 of the trips.
.
Near the Tunnel of Trees (MI 119 I think) I would stop here for a sandwich. This is the sandwich. Not sure why it says Blarney Castle....huh must of gotten that at another stop. CRAP....getting old mate.
That's a great trip. We have been across the bridge twice, both times from the North. First time was in the left lane due to construction. My wife was less than impressed with the grates.
Come on Labor Day Monday and you can walk across the "Mighty Mac"!
I've done it twice but I don't think I have the "gas" to do it again but it's an experience that will stay with you forever.
I know many people who will not ride their bikes across the bridge, especially over the "grated" lane (one in each direction) but many years ago we (the wife and I) road across it on our way to the H-D Homecoming Reunion and she rode my Heritage and pulled the trailer!
It's quite an interesting ride across the bridge ... I've made it at least a couple of hundred times ... What is really cool is that if you're on the grating and the traffic happens to stop you can look down and see the water .. If you're lucky enough to see a freighter crossing underneath you get a perspective of how much the bridge actually sways in the wind :>)

UnKo laRi, you are the perfect person for me to ask this question.......the following happened to me the last 2 times I Was there. The last time was 2015.
Sometimes when you go UP a bridge, you feel a temp change. Sometimes. The last 2 times, it was clearly got warmer, not cooler in which is what you would expect IF there is a temp change at all.
You go UP the bridge and it is warmer not cooler. <-- Backwards.
Did u ever experience that on the Mackinaw bridge??
This may (or may not) answer all of the questions about the Mighty Mac but is interesting reading:
I may be wrong (and I'm someone will correct me if I am ) but I can only remember ONE vehicle actually going over the side of the bridge and ONE cyclist (on a trike) being killed on the bridge earlier this year when he crossed over into oncoming traffic.
