I'll be there Sunday... so bring your rain gear! (its my luck) using Iron Horse as a base camp.
Waiting on a call back from them, and Two Wheel Inn.
I was looking at Tapoco Lodge (with the high rollers ) since they actually have on-line reservations to gauge demand, and they are all but booked up so I may have trouble getting a room.
I think something is maybe going on up there weekend after next. Starting next Thursday (5-12-22) Iron Horse was sold out 2 months ago when I was trying to make reservations. Here's 3 loops I put together/copied from websites... you see somebody on a black Harley, its probably me
Yeah, thats the plan... hopefully the rain has cleared out, we'll be coming in a day or two behind the storms moving across the midwest now. Meeting up with some other guys that are also getting in on Monday, some I know, some I don't know lol
FWIW, the forecast in NC will change twice a day, every day, until an hour before it decides to rain on you, or not. Fortunately those unpredictable pop ups typically happen in the afternoon when its warmer.
All my life the weather has almost always been cooler on the western side of the continental divide in the NC mountains, whether you’re crossing at Old Fort/Black Mountain to the south, or Deep Gap/Boone to the north.
But not this week. It’ll be 40ish when I leave the flatlands in the morning, and 80ish when I arrive a couple of hours west of the divide in the mountains.
Weird.
No rain in the forecast for this short trip. We’ll see how long that holds up.
