Visiting cemeteries
There's a story about Edgar Allan Poe and his love at the Second Presbyterian Church cemetery in Charleston SC but I don't recall the details, also, I took four photos of this same scene and no others for some reason I've also forgotten..
The old cemetery in Savannah GA is creepy. Stones that have fallen over have been placed on a wall ledge. it's also near the square where Forrest Gump sat...
The Boot Hill Cemetery is actually very small but the museum is well worth the trip..
Certainly no one would consider Graceland a cemetery however, Elvis and his immediate family, including a twin that died at birth, are entombed there..
Savannah has LOTS and LOTS of significant historical figures buried around and about, including my 5th (or 6th?) gr-grandfather, Jonathan Bryan (for whom Bryan County, Georgia is named). Jonathan was much too old to serve in the American Revolution, but given his patriotic attitude and his general sense of "rabble rousing" for the patriotic cause, he and his son James were captured by the British and imprisoned on the prison ship Jersey, anchored off of Long Island. He is buried at his plantation Brampton in the family burial ground, now owned by National Gypsum Company in the industrial section of Savannah on the Savannah River.

Several times in my travels however I have come across someones grave in the loneliest places.
I found these one day at a job site I was working on in a rural part of the County. Actually in a bar ditch alongside a fairly well used County road out in the oil patch.
Evidently it was someones home place in the late 19th century. Now it's just old headstones in a neglected patch of weeds.
I paid my respects and went on my way....
