For all of you who have attached a bag to a rack on your tour pak - how heavy do you pack it? The recommended weight is only 10lbs, The bag itself weights almost that. I’m packed for a trip, leaving Monday morning. My bag fully packed weights 25lbs, is this too heavy?
Keep in mind additional weight on the tour-pak luggage rack is high and will effect the handling of the bike.
Put bulky, lightweight stuff in your bag if possible. You don't want to have a large weight load that high up on top of the rack.

Anytime you put weight behind your rear axle and above the centreline of the motorcycle it’s going to affect slow speed handling… That being said, I do it all the time…
Lunch, camera, even my laptop is in there… It’s probably 25 pounds… It does make it a bit of a bear to handle at slow speeds in bumper-to-bumper traffic
I think we all overload the tour pack (and tour pack rack) at times.
On my last two bikes (CVO Ultra and a Tri-Glide) I installed the 4 large diameter washers under the "feet" of the tour pack to better distribute the weight on the tour pack lid.
The only issues that I have ever experienced with tour packs was on my '00 UC when the luggage rack that the tour pack mounts on failed (due to a manufacturer defect) and a few years later one of the "clasping" tour pack latches failed so I replaced both of them along with the "deluxe" hinges.

That was how much mine weighed, and it was felt I repacked and put as much of the heavy stuff as low as I could.
25 pounds doesn’t sound bad considering our highest was 39 pounds.
We returned from our last big Florida trip and I grabbed the bag and thought this is crazy heavy. Yes I felt it all along the route home. I put it on the scale and PRESTO.
I knew right then we made two mistakes. We packed too much and we should have put all the heaviest items in the lowest part of the saddle bags and worked up.
We’ve never been close to that weight again.
So the tour pack will handle it, at least ours did on about a 2k round trip week long ride.
