I'm finalizing my plans for the Lake Superior Loop (going in a clockwise direction) and have a question about the 'best' road to take out of Thunder Bay.
One option is the Hwy 11/17 road which is marked as 'the route', but I also see Lake Shore Drive, which appears to be closer to the lake. Is Lake Shore Drive:
- more scenic ?
- lower speed limit ?
- other ?
I've done it twice, cw. I just went the standard way. Last time I went you had to go awhile for gas going east of Wawa. I skipped gas station cause line was so long
Lot cheaper in MI Sault, than ON.
Nice ride. But like Alberta and Yukon better. But it's nice ride.
Hopefully this pic will show the route options I'm debating:
- the red line is Hwy 11/17 (ie the Lake Superior Loop route on the typical ride maps)
- the black line is Lake Shore Drive (a little closer to the lake)
Can't really help with you question about Lakeshore Dr. but about 30 minutes west of Thunder Bay is Kakabeka Falls, definitely a must see, we made a circle out 17 and back to TB on 102
And birthplace of Winnie the Pooh in White River. And there was a great little Chip truck in Schreiber.
and if you are staying in Thunder Bay, theres a hotel right near the Dealer that gives a discount to Circle Tour Bikers. And they provide stuff to wash the bike.
