Default SF Bay Area to Reno (Scenic Route)

I have to go up to Reno for a few days in early June from the SF Bay Area. Just wondering about a couple of different options for a scenic ride.

Option 1. Catching hwy 70 going across towards Quincy, then towards Hallelujah Junction then down into Reno via US 395 or;

Option 2 Catching hwy 49 by Marysville following that towards Hallelujah Junction then 395 into Reno.

Any thoughts on these options?

Take 580 to 120 and go east to 99 north. Take the 4 exit towards Angels Camp. Stay on 4 all the way to Markleville. You will not be sorry. This road hands down is one of the best I have ever been on. After Markleville, 4 dead ends at 88. You can either make a right and go to 395 into Carson City and then on to Reno or take a left and take 50 around Lake Tahoe to 395 through Carson City and on into Reno. I prefer the Tahoe route.

Ride safe.

This sounds like something that I would do on my way home with my son. Thanks!

Cool

I like hiway 70 through Feather River Canyon. Lots of high speed sweeping curves. You really can't go wrong.

Actually the ride home is easier becuase you are going uphill in the switchbacks. Good choice.

mrmarklin...I agree that's a great ride. I have taken it from 80 to 49 to 70 and through the canyon.

Carson Pass (88) is also a nice ride.

The 4 connects to the 89 east. That portion of the 89 was some of the most spectacular scenery I remember from my travels through the sierras. But you have to do it going east to get the views. You'll be about a mile up looking down into the 395 valley as you go down. Very nice memories.

Be sure to check that the pass you choose is open before you leave. Those that are closed now will have a later than normal opening.
