Heading down there this weekend from upstate PA for a quick trip. I did the dragon about a month ago. Looking at the Cher Skyway this trip. On the map I like the looks of 441 heading north out of Cherokee. That's how I might go to head back to PA. Looking for a nice loop from Robbinsville (Skyway) and back south to Cherokee/M. Valley area without going south on the dragon. Maybe I'll end up on the southbound dragon, and take 28 at Deal's Gap? Thx for any suggestions.
Here is good map that I have referenced when I tour that area a couple time. It has almost all the known / good locations for planning out a route.
Robbinsville is a great staging area ... I've stayed in Cherokee a couple of times too ... As Jack mentioned there isn't a bad ride anywhere in the area ... One not mentioned very often is Wayah road
America Rides maps have a map that illustrates rides in the area, approximate time to complete each one ... Ties some rides together and is well worth the money .. Handy to carry on the scooter too
Thanks all. Have some great ideas now. Chance of rain percentages were higher than I like, so I'll look at a few of these roads for a trip down there another time.
Next month will be the 4th straight year I've ridden to North Carolina from Texas. You haven't ridden the Dragon? I've ridden most of the roads within a 100 mile radius of Maggie Valley, but the Dragon is the cherry on top. No I never ride it on weekends, only during the week, but without a doubt, the Dragon is the best ride I've ridden in N.C.
It's a dangerous and challenging road because of the other vehicles and the Poindexter's that don't know how to ride, and have no business being on the Dragon, but that's it's appeal to me. You can't ride it scared.
Why in the world have you not ridden her?
Don't forget to wave I will be riding down to TX Oct 1 For me its Hillsville's VA to Maggie Valley, Deals Gap, then to Lexington TN, Mobile AL, Lafayette LS, Waco TX.
Just back last Sunday from 9 days on the road through AR, MS, TN (stayed in Gatlinburg 3 days), KY, into OH briefly and back home which is just east of Dallas. We had rain 7 of the 9 days. Sometimes all day, others just partial days. We did a good number of the rides on the map above. Dragon twice. Once in the rain and once dry. Even with the rain it was a great time. 9 bikes on the trip along with a chase truck. Total of 2963.9 miles! Can't wait to do it again. I love me some Smoky Mountains!
We had lunch at the Ironworks Grill at the start of Cherhola Skyway one day. Good food, would recommend them. Second time to Wheel Through Time. Great place to visit.
