People in downstate MI hate Canadians, say they filthy pigs. They bring empty suit cases across, then buy clothes here. Throw the trash and packaging` on the ground.
Thank you for blessing us with your helpful insight regarding the Lake Superior Tour! If anyone tells you they feel dumber for having read your post, dont believe them. Its not true. You are obviously an open-minded, talented wordsmith, and you have highlighted Michigans greatest challenge in the 21st century litter. Even worse, Canadian litter!
The horror, the horror.

I'm sure some do, but in my visits to Michigan , I never encountered anyone who was less than friendly and polite.
That is a good trip, but as stated, the weather early September can turn rough, not often, but you can get snow.

I am sorry if this is like finding out your parents had sex.
Eastern and western Canadians are not the same. I've rode Ontario , Yukon, Alberta, and BC.

I did the ride. Few years ago now. Living in the Soo I recommend doing the ride clockwise. The views are much better that way.
the doughnut shop in Grand Marais is worth a stop. Theres a hotel next to the Harley dealer in Thunder Bay that has a wash station and gives a discount for bikers. A side trip to kakabeka falls is worth it. There was a food truck in schriber that had some great poutine. White river is the home of Winnie the Pooh
Gas can be a bit of an issue but I didnt really get below a 1/4 tank but once.
For some more planning there is a circle tour website. The only issue you may run into is the lack of hotels on 17. It will be construction season after all.
one definite deviation I would offer is from sault mich, go to 6 mile road and take that to Brimley. It runs along the lake and is a great ride. Where it intersects with 123 take it to paradise, see the shipwreck museum, go to the falls, ride through newberry (kinda boring after the falls). Take 28 to 77 to grand marais. Then h-58 in paradise through the park.
dont miss heading up past Houghton, look at a map and take the loop around the keewena. Calumet, Gay (go to the bar. Trust me youll have a laugh), copper harbor (dont forget to stop at the jam pot) and back to Houghton. That is almost all twisties and hills.
lake of the clouds in the porcupines is a great place to see and then youll be practically iin Your own backyard.
Enjoy it and make sure to stop for a pastie in either munising or Ishpeming
I did it clockwise the times I went. The person I went first time, did it a few times took me that way.
As for gas some people still have 5 gallon bikes. Only issue I had was east of Wawa.
Depending on time and where you are coming from, you could do a UP trip and Canada. Obviously you have to ride through both, but one trip to focus on each.
For me I just did it on long weekends, since I am up here. I get to copper harbor and porkies regularly.
