My wife and I are planning a ride around Lake Superior for late August into September this coming summer. We are starting and ending in Ashland, WI. We are taking two weeks for this, so some R & R is built in for hiking, kayaking, sightseeing etc. For anyone that lives in the area or has done that ride, are there any "must see" things along the route?
done it a couple times. The eastern end in Canda had a long stretch without gas. Wawa was the last gas stop for long time. I skipped cause lines were so long.

this sounds muy cool
I can't help, but will watch. This would be a great add to a trip up there I am thinking about. I need to hit Mich, Wis, Minn, and North Dakota
Stay on the Michigan side of Sault, lot cheaper. get alcohol at duty free station before going into Canada. If they ask if you have been in Canada for 3 days when leaving, let your heart be your guide,
You have to be a little clearer about this statement. It flew way over my head.
You can take alcohol, tobacco, and perfume into Canada tax free from either country. But you must be in the country for 3? days. If you still have alcohol left, they may ask you how long you were in the country.
People in downstate MI hate Canadians, say they filthy pigs. They bring empty suit cases across, then buy clothes here. Throw the trash and packaging` on the ground.
Duty Free is 24 hours, yes you’re not suppose to bring it back into the country of which it was purchased.
As said before few gas stops between Sault, Ontario and WaWa. Beautiful scenery between Marathon and Nipigon along the north shore of Lake Superior. Largest cities around the Lake are Sault, Ont., Thunder Bay and Duluth.
Grand Marais, Mn is a nice place to stay on the western shoreline. I suggest stopping in Bayfield, WI and checking out the Apostle Islands, riding the Keweenaw Peninsula up to Copper Harbor and riding H-58 from Munising to Grand Marais, MI (best road in MI IMO). Also a stop while in the area to see Tahquamenon Falls is must (largest Falls east of the Mississippi).
As for border crossing, passport, no firearms and no criminal history including DUI. When asked a question I suggest answering it truthfully, questions normally are not asked that they don’t already know the answers to.
Finally, late August to early September can bring all sorts of weather, so bring the appropriate gear. I would suggest July/Aug as preferred time period. Ride safe.

e.
You can bring it back. I just googled must be 24 hours for $200 of goods and 48 for $800
The duty free shop in MN, drives it to the border, about 1/4 mile a way, Other places I have been you just walk out with it.
You can buy cuban cigars in the US, because it is considered a limbo, which is why you are not paying taxes. Sometimes I will stop for alcohol before going over, because things are so expensive in Canada.
Brockway mountain is one of my favorites, spots, and I've rode from here to Alaska. I was born in the copper country so some may be nostalgia, but it still beutiful spot. I've done the north side seperate, as to do many in the area, since we ride the keewenaw enough,
