One of my riding buddies is going from NC to Ohio with his son to check out the eclipse. They won't be on his bike, they are taking his pickup truck and prepared to sleep in the back of the truck, anticipating no hotel rooms or campgrounds available at a reasonable price.
During the one on 8/21/17 we were on a Northwest tour. We were at exactly to zero point when it started in Oregon. We were at a point of complete eclipse, and even though street lights came on, it really wasn’t very dark. It was kind of an eerie weird kind of yellowish color.

8/21/17. That one also peaked at about 85% of total from my location. I rigged together a projection viewer using a tripod, and a pair of binoculars. I set it up just outside my garage door. I sat in the shade inside the garage sipping a beer while viewing the rare occurrence from start to finish without risking damage to my eyes.

We’re in its path. Have to upstaff for all the visitors expected, attend all the emergency planning sessions, etc. For some unknown reason, the Boston Globe listed my city as tied for #2 in their article about the 5 best places to view it so that may compound the amount of folks traveling here.
