Default Western North Carolina hit hard by storms

I know some of you have trips planned for WNC this fall.....WNC was hit hard by the hurricane.....Many roads closed, washed out, or covered by fallen trees....Towns washed out, bridges gone....Parts of I-40 and BRP closed....
NC authorities said today that there were over 400 roads closed in NC and to consider all roads in WNC closed for the time being....It's pretty bad in some areas.....
Y'all better check ahead before you get on the road.....Some towns like Chimney Rock/Lake lure were nearly wiped out.....Not much news of all of it yet probably because rescue can't get to the areas.....
I'll post up some pics in the next post...

I’ve stayed at that Riverside Lodge. I’ve got a riding buddy that actually lives up on the mountain where the Chimney Rock is located. Been talking to him today. The comms are bad up there on a good day. All main roads were closed earlier today in Western NC

We were supposed to be on two wheels today heading west to Tellico Plains for a week. This year we were going to do the Smoky Mountain Bike Rally. We had to make a decision on Tuesday or get caught paying for the full week. Looks like we made the right decision. It cost 10% to cancel and that was the right call. I expected a lot of rain and maybe trees down. I never ever dreamed there would be this kind of devastation.

I-40 closed east bound, I-26 closed up near Johnson City. Numerous other major highways and bridges washed out. Homes, churches, businesses, even hospitals lost.

This is going to be a really hard, long and expensive recovery.

Look at Lake Lure just a month ago:

What you see above is pretty much gone. The damn breached and the lake is dry, filled with trees and debris. What boats remain are sitting in the mud.

Here is is today:

We are very blessed. Enjoyed time at home today with the Carolina Girl and got our yard work caught up.

Prayers for all affected by this storm.

There are 53 people confirmed dead from Helene so far. I am sure that count will go up.
