I got 20+ years out of my North Face Mountain tent. Like others have said… don’t go cheap unless you’re looking for something to use once or twice, and only in guaranteed good weather.

I use the Eureka Midori 3 backpacking tent. It packs up small, light and setup is easy has room inside for a queen air mattress with room to spare. I've been thru some big storms in it and it's held up well. I use a trap underneath it and I always spray tent waterproofing spray on it every couple of years and let it dry before packing for a trip. used it for 12 years, it's been a great tent. As stated get some good tent stakes. A backpacking tent works great for camping on a bike.

I have a Coleman Sundome 2 man. It fits in the saddle bag of my '18 touring. At $65, it's pretty hard to argue you need a specialty tent.

I have an IHG Membership, and a Bonvoyage, and a Choice Hotels Memebership. They seem to work pretty good for me!

I use a 3 man Coleman tent with a rain fly. Two Bass Pro Shops self filling air matress and a sleeping bag good to 40 degrees that packs down to the size of a shoe. The matress pads are about 1" thick, I stack them for 2" of padding. All in all not very comfortable, when it is hot it is not fun for me.

I also have a 1/2 dome so called two person tent. Brand is not important as it is over 30 years old and still works great. It packs small, is waterproof with the fly and ground tarp. It is called a two person tent, but it is a one person tent. I like the half dome as I can sit up and actually stand up bent at the waist to put on my pants.

For two people, I have a 25 year old REI three person tent. Same rules as above apply except poles are 2” longer and the rolled bulk is about 2” thicker. Weight on a bike does not matter as when I used it, I had my girlfriend, her stuff and my super sleeping arrangement kit that made the extra, oh so worth it.

Solo, especially mixed weather, hot and dry or cold and wet, think about your comfort, ability to move around inside or get dressed, undressed in that tent. Quality, not cost matters. I’ve even made coffee in my tent when I just didn’t feel like facing another wet day until I’ve had a hot cup of Jo.

The 1/2 dome is a simple, rugged design when made with quality materials. Just make sure at the end of your trip, you open it up, dry it completely and then stow it away until your next overnight ride.

I have been strongly considering buying a Alps Mountaineer 2 person tent. What are your thoughts on air flow through the tent ?

Heres my Marmot 3 person tent, which has 2 vestibules which are great for extra storage. Like others have mentioned, spend a bit more and buy a quality tent.
