Anyone ride this and if so just how scary is it. The wife looked it over and said "hell no Im not thinking so bud" but since we are going to saty in Kingman a couple nights while spending a day checking out the laughlin river run, I thought I would ask. The northern road looks harmless enough, but I was hopeing to take 66 over.
Any thoughts??????????
In the old days cars used to drive up the road in reverse (to get the gas flowing towards the engine), modern cars have a pump to make sure the enige gets fuel.
then we did a google map search and saw the enhanced satilite view. She is concerned about the road condition, cliff protection with reguards to guardrails........
If someone has been on the road lately and can ease her mind cool......
Rhubarb
found that sight the other daywhich is what gave me the idea to go that way, but wont do it if my pax will be freaking out ya know...
Hi there,
Yes, I rode the Mother Road in 2001( June23-July8)Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Rt.66 from Chicago,IL all the way to Santa Monica CA.Awesome experience, that section to Oatman"was tailor-made for billy goats and daredevils"the road passes through the striking Sacramento Valley, and starts up the Gold Hill grade, cosidered the steepest part of the entire route".Leaving Goldroad, the old highway continues to desend, twisting and turning around mountains, until it enters historic Oatman." Hairpin blind corners ,no guardrails BE CAREFUL! ,BUT YOU HAVE GOT TO RIDE IT ,you will not regret it!
Sorry for being so long winded.
Do it, you will love it! Gordon
Wife and I rode 66 from Kingman to Needles last April during the Laughlin River Run. It is pretty well maintained, and in good shape. It is twisty, and there are no guard rails in places, but it is not anything to worry about. I have been on much more intimidating highways in the Rocky Mountains.
This is a section of the old highway that is not to be missed. Oatman is a real kick in the A$$. When you get there you will understand what I am talking about.
