there are so few paved roads from Moab to Zion, you almost don't need a map! When I was at Bryce, saw a large group of bikes parked on a bad part of the road. Turns out they were a bunch of Swiss riders who had rented bikes and were riding the park circuit. One of the riders was checking out the scenery and not watching the road. He's the one that went over the side!! If you really want to see it all, either be a passenger or pull over frequently.

I've done these roads 3 times from So. Cal.
You will love them! Hwy. 12 Around Escalante/Boulder is great. Eat at Hells Backbone Grill in Boulder.
Ride the Bullfrog road out and back from Boulder. Worth the round trip.
Zion is amazing. I highly recommend hiking the Narrows in Zion. Rent gear at one of the outfitters in town (not expensive) and hike up the Virgin River into the narrows. The view is 1500 ft. straight up! It's one of those moments that you just sit and stare in amazement. It takes up most of a day and is not too difficult.

Myself and some friends are planning a ride through that area this July on our way to Sturgis. Are the roads paved as I would hate to ride on gravel, especially hot gravel.Which roads are not paved ?

Zion is much hotter than Bryce Canyon due to it's lower elevation.
Bryce might be a comfortable 70 while Zion can be in the 100's

I was stationed in Arizona in the early 80's so I got a chance to ride all over Arizona and Utah. Of all the places I've seen there, or in my life for that matter, Zion still comes to mind when I think of my favorite, most amazing places I've been.
Words cannot describe it, you just have to go and experience it for yourself.

You gotta see Capitol Reef NP too. Its a short detour and you can spend the night at a little biker hotel just up the road from the 'reef'. All the rooms are ground floor, they kinda cater to bikers, good restraunt athe the hotel that serves good beer! Price is a not bad either. Then the next day you can make it all the way to Zion, depending on your riding style. It's a great trip. Take lots of water. Gas isn't a problem and when I did it in early may, it was a little hot but you beat all the campers, ect.
