Rain Gear
Some people like them and say they keep them pretty dry and others will say they are horrible and they get soaked. Just one of those things I guess. I read reviews of them and decided at the price (they were on sale at Bass Pro Shops) I would give the Road Toads, I think that is what they are called, a try.
The first time I was caught in an all day rain they kept my upper body dry but my leg from the knee down was very wet. I had Gor-tex boots on, but no overboots. The next time I was caught in the rain I had the Froggs Toggs and over boots. I had the overboots outside of the rain pants and my lower pant leg and boots got a little wet. The next storm I put the overboots under the pants leg and I stayed pretty dry. But now the leg has a couple of small holes from being burned on the pipes.
I have a good pair of overpants I can wear, but they are not really "packable", very bulky. I still take the Froggs Toggs with my on trips with the overboots and over gloves and stay pretty dry. Maybe I am different than most in that I really do not expect to stay completely dry while riding a motorcycle in the rain. I can deal with a small leak here or there. At some point I may pay more for a good rain suit, but right now it is not worth for something I only use 10 or 11 times a year.

+1 for HD Goretex. Best Gear investment I ever made!
Personally I don't like the style - elastic at wrists and waist on the jacket plus elastic at the ankles of the pants...
It's fantastic as a light-weight jacket and as a wind breaker...!!!
We ride a lot - I've had mine for almost 2 years; don't wear the pants as we don't ride in the rain any longer and I really don't like them - I wear chaps all the time...
Jacket sleeves are getting worn out as we've hit a lot of cold/windy weather in last two years and I wear it over my leather jacket which works wonderful...

Just got back from Mt Nebo, Russellville, AR. We road about 300 miles in the rain driving home and the FT keep the wife and I dry. I've had the FT about 4 years now and they are holding up well. But we both had soaked feet. I guess I need to find something for the boots.
The only problem with the FT are we look like the Michelin man. Nice thing about getting old is you don't care what other think of your looks.

I think rain gear is something you don't want to scrimp on. It's all about comfort and ultimately safety. I have the HD Overpass gear, and it's of good quality for around town, and it packs reasonably small. But on tour, I use the Olympia AST jacket and First Gear overpants. Although fairly expensive, they have kept me dry in multi-day rains and prevented a ruined vacation.
Buy it. You'll be glad you did next time you ride in the rain. It's good stuff. I have an Overpass rain suit from before I got my FXRG gear and swear by it. I got the FXRG gear to free up space when traveling. Also, don't have to stop to put the rain gear on. I swear by the FXRG boots. Very warm in cold weather, lightweight and best of all, waterproof. Wet feet will definitely ruin your day. I've ridden a lot in the rain and must say that Harley rain gear works very well. Well worth the money. Like Pastor John says, rain gear is not something you want to scrimp on.

H-D suits might be pricey, but I've had mine for 7 years now and been in the rain, hail and snow a lot and they have never failed to keep me bone dry. IMHO they are the best for the money over the long haul.
