we did a 200 mileloop from lovel wy through red lodge up beartooth then down chief joseph hwy.took about 8hours.rode the 730 from fargo to lovel in 11 hours.id say if you push it you could do 400 in the mountains.thers construction on 14a in the big horn mountains.and on the beartooth hwy.sure theres some in yellowstone also.
I would agree, Beartooth Pass, Chief Joseph Scenic Byway, Yellowstone, Tetons and Jackson Area are some of the best rides in the US. Coming from Deadwood try Hwy 14A through the Big Horn Mtns. I would save the Rockies for another trip.
there is a lot of construction around Yellowstone right now... don't plan on getting many miles in the day you go through the park.
have fun on Beartooth... just be careful. There was rocks through almost every one of the 10mph corners on the Red Lodge side. Once you go over the summit things are much smoother with bigger, longer corners that you can really have some fun in.
Why are you spending 6 days in Deadwood. Not really much there. You could see the whole town in about 4 hrs. and that includes eating lunch and gambling. I would spend more time seeing the other sights. If you take your time and want to enjoy the scenery I would not ride for more than 200-250 miles a day. That gives you time to stop and enjoy other parts of your ride. Just my .02
Remember "It's not the destination it's the Journey" take your time and see what ever it is suits your fancy. How is it possible to see anything when you ride 500-900 mi per day ?
There was construction around Yellowstone in 2006 and was told it was a 7 year project....
Just ride safe have fun and take tons of pics....
I don't think there is a mile per day answer. 10 hours in the saddle with stops every 1 1/2 hours or so is a full day. If you are on the back roads, that can be 300 miles or less. On the I-ways, more like 600. I can't really tolerate the I-ways myself, they put me to sleep.
I gotta agree with theflyingdutchman, miles depends on the type of road. along with the area your riding in. I was going through NM last august and what we did was got up early and rode till it got super hot, found a hotel that had a pool for the afternoon and did some laundry, then finnished the ride to our destination in the evening. the total for the day was 520 miles but it only felt like 300 or so because it was broken up.
