3,000 Miles to...
I rode Rt. 522 (beautiful farms and countryside) from Culpepper to Sperryville, Va. -- Rt. 522 is the same road my dad took me on several times to Skyline Drive (aka Blue Ridge Parkway) almost 50 years ago. It seemed like yesterday. (How do memories like that stick with you for so long? It was like a live photo album or video from decades ago.) I got to Skyline drive and paid the man here...

Later I stopped to get a shot of the blue sky... so much for the Weather Channel predictions, huh? ...it wasn't nearly as hazy as the photo makes it look...

There were lots of other bikers on the Parkway... one guy had a sidecar with his dog in it. Cool dude. Bet the dog loved it. And I'm sure the chicks did, too.
Rode the Parkway from Sperryville up to Front Royal (talk about a time warp... that town hasn't changed much), then hopped on 66 to 81 and up to Harrisburg, Pa. Then got on Rt. 15 and rode about half way up the state. Nice highway, although a little too busy for my taste, but it has some great views of the Susquehanna River to the right.
If this undeserved favor continues, I will be well into the beautiful state of New York tomorrow evening. Can't wait for the more-sparsely populated areas.
Some are just better than others

I'm glad the weather has been on your side so far but I think a chill is on your way.
Good weather makes you feel alive but bad weather gives you something to talk about
Keep us posted and enjoy.
If the timing is right, maybe we can meet up. In 07, I took my once in a life time trip (I'm ready again) from NJ to Utah and met up with a fourm member in NM, had dinner and he directed me to some really great roads.
I'm located about 5 miles west of the Rt 80 Rt 287 intersection.
If you are riding in bad weather, it could be worst, you could be home in bad weather....
Ride safe.

And when I got to Corning, I stopped by American Twin Harley-Davidson near Corning NY to see if my pack mule was acting up... the service manager checked everything over carefully, and he even had one of his mechanics ride it to see if anything unusual was going on... just the "normal" Sportster ride... no appointment, and NO CHARGE!

My local indy closed his doors recently, but I've had some very good experiences at the HD dealers I've worked with recently... my local dealer in Wilmington, NC, Four-Corners HD in New Mexico, Aspen Valley HD in Glenwood Springs, CO, and now this one in Corning, NY.

Thanks for your note, and the invitation, I appreciate it... I'm not sure when I'll be coming your way... actually, I'm not even sure exactly what routes I'm taking... I look at my maps each evening after I settle in and then decide... I'll send you a PM when I get a little farther along.
Thanks again.

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
I left Oswego about 9 a.m. this Sunday morning and rode the New York State Seaway Trail on my way to Watertown, NY. I stopped at the Selkirk Shores State Park. I only took a couple of photos... one of the camper registration office and another of the sign showing where I was...

Here's a little closer shot of the sign...

I found out too late that the batteries in my camera were dead, so I missed getting pictures of the beautiful scenery in Henderson Bay, Sackets Harbor and Black River Bay along the edge of Lake Ontario. When I got to Watertown I stopped for lunch and then headed for Lake Placid. Here are a few pictures of the many rivers and lakes on the way... the leaves may be just past their peak, but it was an awesome ride... I saw several other riders... all dressed as warm as me!

I rode past Saranac Lake, but I may go back tomorrow and get some pictures...

When I got to Lake Placid I rode by a place I'd like to live...

After checking in to my room, I stepped out on the balcony and saw this...

While it was still light I took a stroll down the main drag to get some dinner...

On the way back to my room I saw some snow flurries... I'm not kidding! ...but just a few.
Tomorrow's a holiday so I'm going to rest up and do some laundry... I think the high temperature is going to be in the upper 30s. (That's an even better excuse to rest.)
