I've been trying to get away all summer but couldn't seem to do it... so I'm finally going to take some scenic backroads up north to think about "what's next" for this OldCoot.
Here's the loaded bike... almost ready to go... packed some cold weather stuff for Ontario, Saranac Lake, NY, Vermont and Maine...
Today wasn't real exciting ... I tried to get close to the mountains; headed northwest; ended up in Culpepper, Virginia; rode about 350 miles of highways and backroads.
It was in the low 50s when I left this morning... It felt colder and colder as the morning progressed. I'm not looking forward to riding in the 30s. Who's idea was this?
I've been to the Keys... They're beautiful (and warmer)... I'd like to see some mountains and fall leaves... but I'm not sure it's worth the pain... we'll see... they're calling for rain over the next couple of days over much of the area I have to ride through to get to New England... cold AND wet might be more than this OldCoot can handle.
Hey Old Coot, Wilmington here, too. It was very cold in Wilmington today. Maybe it will help you to get acclimated. It's going to be 90 on Sat here. You can always turn around if it gets to cold. I just did Boston and took 40, 95, 64 to 81 to 84 to 90. Nice ride and good scenery through the Catskills and Poconos. Good luck! I still say the best riding is in the Smokies!
