We've been 3 years in a row, but that was 4 years ago. We actually fell into a great deal with some homeowners there that rented out their camper in their driveway. We want to go again in 2010, but I can't remember the site that I found their info on last time. What seems to be the best site to go to in order to find places to rent?
Leaving 12546 and heading to Jackson, WY 2 weeks before Sturgis. Have reservations in Keystone for the week already. This is going to be our first trip so if there are anything we should know about or should definatly do please send me a message. Overall mileage will be around 4200 miles, this is the benifit of being retired.
The sig picture you see below was from our holidays last summer. It was a 3 week road trip that included a few days stop in sturgis. We carried all our clothes, shoes, etc. plus camping gear, tent, ground sheet, air mattresses sleeping bags. Plus we had 2 full face helmets strapped on the back. Full rain gear plus full leather gear. I even had enough room for a case of beer.
I think if you pack smart you'll find you don't have to ship anything.
Hey Big Blue I rode a sportster from Western Ky to Sturgis in 06. I had clothes and camping gear for two weeks. Pack smart and I do not belive you would have to ship any thing. My wife and I travel a lot on the King and manage just fine.
I'm staying in Keystone as well, here http://www.holysmokeresort.com/. Leaving Chicago on Saturday the 7th, spending the night in Mitchell S.D. (where the corn palace is), and pulling into Keystone on Sunday the 8th. For any of you MN or other mid-west residents that are staying in/around Keystone and want to hook up for the ride out or for riding while we're there, P.M. me. I'll also be taking my truck and trailer along as I've got a buddy that's going who doesn't want to ride the whole way, and I like the idea of having a support vehicle there with extra tools etc... Plus on the days it rains and I don't feel like riding in the rain we'll have a means to get around.
the wife and i are staying in spearfish except we are going to be there the week before.we have 5 other couples from slc that we are riding with .i hear there is still alot to do,plus the rooms are cheeper.
pavin, there is still alot to do the week before. that's when we went. still alot of bikers but you are able to ride iron mountain, etc without the tire to tire traffic.
have a great time! and don't forget to take the trip to Devils Tower in Wyoming. Absolutely beautiful. Just watch out for the tar snakes on those Wyoming roads...my front tire jumped 6 inches going around a curve and I about had a heart attack! lol
We're making our first trip to Sturgis in 2010 as well, leaving from Milwaukee on the mornming of the 7th hoping to arrive sometime later in the day on the 8th. We did book a hotel room at the Iron Horse Inn for the week. Anyone ever stayed at this place?
We're still trying to decide where to stay during the overnight, thinking about making the long trip on the first day in both directions. Suggestions from others that may have made this trip?
My better half would like to pack light for the trip out and ship everything else we need for the week. I'm more inclined to just pack light, wash when we need to, and ship home any extra stuff we might buy along the way. Either way, this is going to be the trip of a lifetime for both of us!
Binford6100 you're about as many miles from Sturgis as we are, just under 1K. I live near Gurnee IL. I planned my trip to hit slightly more miles on the first day (just under 600), spending the night in Mitchell S.D., and then only having just under 400 miles on the second day. I can't remember where we're staying in Mitchell right now, but it's one of the "box chains', and it's costing us about 80.00 for the room, but they've got the continental breakfast, pool and hot tub which I'm sure I'm going to be using that evening.
been there many times (sturgis) I have had to ship things back, not a problem, main street in sturgis had UPS trailer, where you could ship things home. If you plan on shipping stuff there, remember to toss in return shipping label and tape in the box, so when your shipping back, everything is there. Hope you have a great time.
