I've riden from Pgh to Sturgis 5 and 1/2 times (yes one time was 1/2 but that's for another day)
take earplugs
best advice I ever got which was the first time I rode and rode it by myself, was from a seasoned rider: when you go out - take gear for the coldest day, the wetest day and the hotest day. Every day you are there, you will or should be riding a couple of hundred miles and on any given day you can need gear for every extreme. Trust me on that fact. it is a great destination. In Sturgis, be sure to put both feet down at every stop and tell your significant other to keep her mammaries under wraps in town else be prepared for a hefty fine.

Check out Spearfish (maybe 25 miles from Sturgis) and the LRancho Motel. Good, clean digs and good prices. Outdoor firepit and nice, cozy rooms. The couple that run it (Matt and Stacey) are riders themselves and VERY cool people.

Shipping items????????????? what all do you plan to take??? Wife and I both can travel for weeks with what we can pack on our bike and it has a chopped tour pack. I always bring heated clothing and full rain gear...

In fact we are now packing for our second coast to coast with http://rftw.org/ and then riding to MA for our daughters wedding.. before we had back to CA..

Now on this trip because of the wedding - the wife will ship her wedding cloths to Boston... I do admit - no room for her dress and shoes for the wedding...lol..

other than that - two people should have plenty of room for a two week ride to Sturgis.

I was there last year two weeks before the CROWDS... very nice riding before all the bikes on the road... spent 5 days there..

Make sure you see the Evening show (every night) at Mt Rushmore... You will enjoy it.

hope they do NOT repeat the Hail storm from last year..

go to youtube and seach 2010 Sturgis Hail storm... Storm for HELL

Last year was our first time also.. I had several questions.

IF you are looking for a good picture spot when at Mt Rushmore -

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/road-...pot-found.html

This next link has several nice maps if you scroll down and also pictures of the tunnels that frame Mt Rushmoore. these roads are GREAT and are a MUST ride..

enjoy..

Also, if you see my Buffalo when there - stay clear - he does NOT like bikers... lol...
