Hey Surfit, get a windshield. Been riden the Rockies for 30 yrs. I will tell you that it is easier and cheaper to put one on now rather than on the road when you realize its a good idea. You are ging to have an good ride and a windshield is going to cut down on fatigue and give you something to hide behind in that storm that is going to find you somewhere. Happy Trails

Not excited about Sturgis, but FYI: only 125 days until I'm there! Did I say, "woo-hoo!"?

Must be a distortion in the space/time continuum because everybody but you thinks '82 was the last year for camping in the park.

You can call FedEx and have them tell you if they have a station or Business Service Center close to where you're staying. You can ship your gear and have them "hold at FedEx location" until you get there. Works like a charm. You just need to make sure you don't ship more than you can carry to the hotel on your bike! You can ship directly to your hotel, but you still must ship the gear back, so getting it to and from the FedEx location is important process to consider. Good luck and have fun. Also, remember there's a lot of beer drinking along those roads in the Black Hills by thousands of partying bikers. Many have been taken down by fellow bikers having too much drink and riding faster than they should during their Sturgis Bike Week. Ride Safe!

Bring sunscreen, raingear, underwear, and more sunscreen. The rest of the stuff you will pick up at hotels and vendor tents. No-one is going to care if you brought 1 pair of jeans or 12. I burned the heck out of my face on the very first day so don't forget the sunscreen! I also like to bring my flip-flops for showering in the campground and relaxing by the campfire.

Its a great time! Bring a camera on the first trip.

Great tips Larry. The only thing that I would add would be to take some warm gear. My husband and I found that we all our gear from tee shirts to our heated liners on our trip from Vancouver. Sure wish we were headed there again this year but its not in the cards. Have a great time and ride safe.

i haven't stayed there, but i've heard a lot of good things through the grapevine. i think they have a pool there - that'd be a nice break after a hot day in the sun

Thanks OP. Didn't look hard enough the first time on their site. Found it now. Our plan sounds real similar as far as travel days. Still nailing down who is going out. Two of us have stepped up and already bought our pass for the Chip so at least we will be going.
