i haven't stayed there, but i've heard a lot of good things through the grapevine. i think they have a pool there - that'd be a nice break after a hot day in the sun
That was one of the reasons I thought it looked great, easy way to cool off.
It's everything you have heard and few things you could never imagine. Rain gear is a must, make sure your insurance covers hail damage. Last year was killer. The rides are great, the sights are fantastic.
This will be our 4th time there but we are fortunate enough to stay at a friends house just outside of downtown Rapid. If you haven't been there the sturgis web site has a download of ($$) what to bring, maps to everywhere you could want to ride while there .
Enjoy yourselves, even if you don't know us, when you see my wife you will know its us. ( * )( * )
My wife and I are going to Sturgis for the first time this year. We live about an hour from Raleigh, North Carolina. We have made some long rides, but never this long. We can't wait. We are staying in Rapid City as we figure that is not too far from everything. There is certainly some good advice here. And I did download that information you have to pay for. There is quite a bit of information in it, especially if you are going to be camping.
I'm going for the first time in 2010... I've booked in Keystone, which is 50+ miles from Sturgis. Anyone have any thoughts on staying here? There were some rooms in Sturgis/Deadwood, but the prices are ridiculous, and my lady friend is not about to stay at a campground.
Me, a friend, her daugher and her parents went to Sturgis a week after bike week (we had a 13 year old with us).... we stayed in Keystone. It's a ok town. We stayed at the President's Inn. Nice place. People who work there are RUDE. All summer help and they just don't care. Nice little town. They tried to raise our rates when we left, but make sure you have your confirmation page with you when you check out so you can bust them!
Have fun!
First timer here. Just booked at the Econolodge in Keystone-helluvalot cheaper than Rapid city...and it'll be a sweet ride into Sturgis! Leaving from Richmond, IL. Only staying two nights there...that might be just enough for me!
Buddy of mine and I are riding up from Houston, leaving on the 7th planning on rolling in about mid day Monday.I've got a cabin booked at Custer St Park. Its both of our's first time to Sturgis and I'm hoping I haven't bit off more than I can chew as far as the rides concerned.
Planning on going to the Devils tower wednesday and leaving for home thursday morn.

Our group is leaving Round Lake (about 25 miles from you) the morning of the 7th, and we're staying in Keystone (here http://www.holysmokeresort.com/) as well.
Going again this year and staying again in Sundance, WY. Rates are 1/2 the price of Rapid City, area only 40 miles from Sturgis and great riding in the area. Think ahead when booking find a motel with a washer dryer and only pack 1/2 teh stuff you think you need. A few brews and meeting great peopel while the clothes are in the washer and dryer.
Going for my third year in a row. Staying at Ellsworth AFB Family Camp for $7.00 a night with the 7th night free (tent camping). In the center of everything. Black Hills HD has all the maps and information you need plus a huge vendor area. HD puts on it's dog and pony show at the Rapid City Convention Center. Easy access to all the scenic must see places. One full day in downtown Sturgis is all you need to get the experience but the Chip is the mother lode.
