Default trip to Yellowstone

A buddy and I are going from Michigan out to Yellowstone in early July. I am looking for info on places to stay, places to avoid, and nice side trips. We are planning on going to Rushmore, Beartooth, Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park, through Colorado to Colorado Springs and then heading back east toward home. I would appreciate any help y'all might be able to give us.

You might want to check out the Crazy Horse Monument since you are in the area of Mt. Rushmore. I liked it better than Rushmore. We did not get to do Beartooth due to a road closure.

How many days?

How many hours a day do you like to ride?

Things are pretty far apart out here.

We usually do 400-500 miles a day unless we are stopping somewhere to look at something. We try to stay off the slab as much as possible. We don't have any set time to get back but we are thinking 10-12 days.

Cool When in Yellowstone...

We stayed in West Yellowstone when we visitied Yellowstone NP. Highly reccommend it. No reservations. And some very good resturants. Then headed east through Cody and caught the last couple of days of Sturgis. Your going to see some awsome country. Have a GREAT time as I know you will.

adlad, if you want some Garmin GPS maps PM me and I will email them to you. We are planning the same trip in Early SEP if we get back soon enough. Plan on Badlands, Custer, Deadwood, Mt Rushmore, Devils Tower, Battle of Little Bighorn, Beartoth Hiway, Yellowstone, and RMNP. 15 to 16 day trip. We are in NC too, near Charlotte.

In Red Lodge, MT, you can't beat The Yodeler Motel. Owned by bikers and it's 2 blocks from downtown. Big hot tub, too! http://www.yodelermotel.com/

I recommend renting a cabin inside Yellowstone National Park. We stayed in a "rustic cabin" at Lake in the park. It was great! I booked it in April for July 4th weekend and got the last cabin available...book early! Book through the NPS website.

Cody, WY - The Irma Hotel is where it's at. Built by Buffalo Bill in the early 1900's. The original bar is still there...really neat stuff! http://www.irmahotel.com/

If you plan on staying in Jackson, WY, the Anvil Motel is centrally located in town, about 3 blocks from the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. Covered bike parking out back, too. http://www.anvilmotel.com/

Estes Park, CO - It's pricey, but the Stanley Hotel is awesome. Harry and Lloyd (from "Dumb & Dumber") and Stephen King can't be wrong. King got his inspiration for "The Shining" after staying here. Yes, it's haunted (if you believe in that superstitious-hokus-pokus stuff). http://www.stanleyhotel.com/
