I don't know, if the Bright angle is booked then the El Tovar might be also. A few years back I tried to book either one 10 months and was out of luck. Had to book at the GC lodge. Alot of $ for poor accomodations. They even had us down for a differant date but I had my confirmation paperwork with the right date, They had to put us up in the Motel just outside the gate accross from the McDonalds the first night till they had an opening, a much nicer place it was and less $. Sounds like a great trip.
This might be crazy, but we might just wing it on accomodations.
Alot of strees lately with 2 layoffs in the last 6 mo. and another one set for March. It's getting cut throat at work theses days. Plus we are moving into a new building next month.
I've usually just wing it regarding where I'm staying for the night too. One thing about going to the GC in May is that you won't have to park your bike and get on a bus to see the park. During the summer months they use busses to keep the traffic down and you have to ride them rather than use your own vehicle.
We went in to southern Utah, Grand Canyon area in Sept and did not make any reservations.. Only had trouble at the GC.. There were no rooms available online for the days we were going to be there.. had to stay in Williams Az. the first night, but as we were going into the GC the next morning we stopped just outside the gate and asked at one of the big hotels and was told that the hotel across the road had 3 rooms.. we went over, it was 09:00a, and made our reservation for the 2nd and 3rd night..ate lunch at the El Tovar , pricey but good.. and they had 1 room for the night but it was more $ than outside the gate.. we stuck with what we had.. So, check first thing in the mornings for any cancellations or no shows...
