on this trip we will obviously be riding through the mountains... does anyone have any perspective on what precautions to take... what to pack... clothing etc..... i hear its a different story riding through the mountains
Experience has taught me a lot. Get a good pair of all-weather gauntlet gloves that will keep your hands warm/dry and keep the wind out of your sleeves.
Dress in layers, undress in layers. A hoodie is a GREAT layer as it keeps the wind from diving down the back of your neck.
Mountain roads...ride at YOUR pace, turn your head, look through the turn and stay off your front brake! That having been said, if your pace is REALLY liesurely you might take advantage of a scenic overlook so you don't get a bunch of raging cagers that start to creep up your a$$.
+1 on the hoodie in cool weather, not so much if it's raining. The hood gets wet and wicks the water down onto your shoulders. Another good item to wear under your leather jacket is on of those pullover insulated windbreakers. They're thin, stop the wind, and very warm, especially when covered with a leather jacket.
