Default Memphis - Bad areas to avoid?

Looking for some info. We are coming down from Nashville next week via Shiloh. We plan to come in from South of the City and go north on EP Blvd. to Graceland. Any rough areas, as in bullets flying, Gang activity, we should be aware of? Staying at the Days Inn Graceland overnight. Any advice would be appreciated.........apart from Lock and Load as this is not that type of Vacation.

Yeah Memphis is quite a shithole. We took a roadtrip out to San Diego and one of our stop points was Memphis, little did we know that we first got a hotel room at a holiday inn in East Memphis I believe it was. Hotel was a shithole and there was literally a red stain on the floor, not joking either. We bailed got out money back and went across to the other side of town. In the end just look at the surroundings and you will know where u should and should not be.

From personal experience, I would recommend avoiding the casinos in Tunica. Cost me a pretty penny the last time I was there!!

Seriously, I'd stay away from the Warford/Mt. Olive area. And Graceland isn't in the nicest section either. Midtown and Germantown aren't bad.

If you get a chance, you might want to try Interstate BBQ. Some of the best I've ever had.

Stayed at the Hampton Inn about a block off of Beale St. a couple years ago. Very nice hotel. Could walk to Beale Street and all the clubs. Was on Beale St. and got into a confrontation with a boy that was drunk and mouthy. Tried to walk away and he was being an a$$. Only problem I had while there. Went to Graceland and other places in town.
