Haven't been there on my bike yet, but I have spent about 20 or so days humping the Tennessee Valley Divide in and around Dahlonega with about 80-100 pounds on my back, at the request of Uncle Sam. All the while thinking to my self, "Self, this would be a great area in which to come back and visit, as long as rucksacks, patrol bases, RIs, arty sims, and 20 click movements aren't involved and I could sleep more than an hour a day."

One of these days I'm going to make a return trip to Dahlonega and Mount Yonah. Absolutely gorgeous. If you haven't already, definitely hit Little River Canyon on your way through Dekalb/Cherokee Counties in AL.

We did the GA run last year, up around Helen, Dahlonga, Cleveland, Fort Mountain, really all over, Dalton, Rome. There is a state park up there somewhere, (pulling from memory that is not too good ya know). But all good rides, especially the Fort Mountain area. you won't regret it. Good roads and nice scenery. we came backroads from Spring Hill TN where the Daughter lives all through Ga and AL back to MS.

Hwy 411 /23 in very NE Ga. is town of Dillard.. Nice place to stay and Dillard House has good meals.. may be expensive for some but it's worth it.. search Dillard House and see if you think it's worth the trip.. the riding up there is great.. go Dillard to Highlands, NC to Franklin N.C. to Hiawasse, Ga. .. will not regret it..

I've heard of Suches on Hiwy 60 north of Dahlonega in the Chattoochee Nat'l Forrest. It is suppose to be motorcycle friendly, something like Deals Gap. Four of us are heading that way next weekend. When we get to Tellico Plains, we'll decide if we go east to Deals Gap or south to Suches. (I'm voting for Suches, been to Deals Gap)

Yes, go to Suches (great curvy road). From Tellico Plains, take Hwy 68 south down to Hwy 60 into GA. Take 60 down to Suches and a motorcycle only campground will be on your right. Here's the site: www.twowheelsonly.com If you get there before two, you can get lunch...the burgers are great! I think the tail of the dragon road/deals gap (US 129) is still closed.

Hi,

If you do a search of this forum, there was a great thread about the Georgia mountains about a month ago. Some great info and routes on that one.

Good Luck

Here is some directions from Murphy, but you can improvise I would ride from Murphy to Helen, GA: *http://www.helengeorgia.com/ *Helen
is a quaint German resort town with great German food and brew and lots of
neat shops. *I would suggest getting there and eating lunch. *After lunch, I
would ride to Suches, GA, home to the world famous TWO Motorcycle resort:
http://www.twowheelsonly.com/ *Stop by have some of GT's sweet tea and
homemade pies. *From Suches, I would ride the famous GA Triangle.
http://www.philmages.com/writing%20T...0Triangle.html *Now if
lunch at Helen is too early, GT at TWO has the best two hand steak burger in
the country also. *

*Leave Murphy on US129 back toward
Ocoee for about 7 miles. *At the intersection of US129 and US-64, take
SU-129 South toward Blairsville, GA and continue past Blairsville til SR 180
left and in abt 1 mile take SR 348 right. *SR 348 is a very scenic route
thru the NGA mtns and at one point crosses the Appalachian Trail. *SR348
will end at SR 75 and take a left and go abt 3 miles to Helen, GA. *Enjoy.
Return from Helen on SR-75 but continue on past SR 348 until SR-75 ends into
US129. *Take US129N and then left on US19S and Left on SR60 to Suches and
the TWO. *After the pie and sweet tea do the GA Triangle which will bring
you back to TWO. At this point you can head back over to US129 and head back
to Murphy or leave TWO on SR60N up a very nice two lane and either cut over
on Skeenah Gap Rd over to Blairsville or continue of SR60 up to US76 and
back to Blairsville to US129 back to Murphy. *You will just have to see how
your time is going at the conclusion of Triangle. *
