Question Sturgis Camping Recommendations

This will be my first trip to Sturgis. Figure you have to experience it at least once. I will be going up on Wednesday Aug 11 and return Saturday. I plan on tent camping and would like some recommendations on where to go. Would prefer one of the campgrounds that are more of an adult nature. Had considered the Buffalo Chip but on the days I am going the rates are $50 - $60 because of the groups playing. Not that interested in seeing groups, more in to the sites and partying that goes on. Would like to stay in the $20/nite range. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Elk View just south of Sturgis on the interstate is nice and clean. They have music and good food and cold beer. Nice showers and also a bus comes around to take you into town. Its crowded out there

Elkview Campgrounds, close to Sturgis and as stated above, a shuttle bus can take you into town. Believe the last bus from downtown Sturgis leaves for Elkview around 2 am in the morning. You have the choice of several buses running to all the campgrounds and venues. If memory serves me right the cost of the shuttle is arouind $15.00 for the day. Elkview has a website, cost was $20 per day in 2009 if you didn't pay for the whole week in advance. Not really a big party place and I found the food a little expensive but good. When the hail comes, and it will, they have a large metal building to cower down in. I thought the showers were not the best. When the weather is hot all the heat and steam stays in the shower building and you will be sweating big time after you take your shower. Just my opinion. One good thing is that it cools down quickly in the eveing making for good sleeping weather if you are so inclined. Last item: you will hear the drone of multitudes of Harley Davidsons 24/7 from Rapid City to Sturgis and for miles around.

Custer State Park has nice campground. Not much of a party atmosphere, but it is near tons of the places you'll want to visit.

Default Broken Spoke

Most of the campgrounds related to Strugis only rent by the week. I stayed last year at The Broken Spoke about 12 miles north of town. It was $100 total for as many days as you wanted. They have running water. There is partying every night and different bands playing. My friend stayed at Riverview ( I think across from Full Throttle) and he said that has good also.

Default Glencoe

Glencoe and The Buffalo Chip are the two adult campgrounds. If you are looking for a $20 campground try Lamphere which is right beside Glencoe and across the road from The Full Throttle Saloon. If you are looking for adult fun, Glencoe and Buffalo Chip are the way to go.

The Lamphere does charge by the day, I think it's $18 per day with a three night minimum. It is a much more "low key" campground compared to The Chip or Glencoe.
