leaving on the 28th headed to Florida from Iowa. so whats the best way around Atlanta? Stay on I75 and go straight through or take I285 around? i'll either be hitting it late Friday night or Saturday morning. been through it many times in a car and around it once 25 years ago on motorcycle. so i'm wondering some of your opinions on how to go. thanks

Make every effort to avoid taking I-75 thru Atlanta on the 28th...there is a Brave's baseball game that evening and the traffic will completely ruin your ride. There is also a lot of construction thru downtown and that usually causes enough problems even without a major event like the ballgame.
But if you must come thru Friday evening, I'd suggest I-285 on the west side.
If you're coming thru early Saturday morning, then I'd suggest just staying on I-75 (in the HOV lane) through downtown.
Here's a link to the Georgia DOT web site that will give you some better info. NOTE: construction traffic on this site is not very accurate so be warned.
Early Sat. morn.. before 8:00am.. beware coming thru Chattanooga, Tn on friday night also.. it's not as big as Atlanta but it is a convergence of 3 interstates and everybody drives like a Bat out of Hell.. sounds like a good name for a song..
thanks....the more i look at it i'll be hitting atlanta on saturday morning...now chattanooga thats i'll be hitting friday night. i'll catch a hotel or rest area somewhere between the two.

FWIW, if you make it to the Kennesaw, GA area and still looking for a place to stay/eat, take I-75 exit 269 (Barrett Pkwy). Go right at the bottom of the ramp and that will take you away from the more congested mall area.
Go right at Cobb Place Blvd to either a Hilton or Marriott on your left. There are restaurants and shopping within walking distance.
If you continue further south on I-75 (ie exit 261 - Delk Rd), you'll find other lodging and restaurants but those tend to be in high-crime areas.
