My favorite road is hwy 24 & 12, from hanksville to escalante. you go fron desert to rock canyons to ceders to alpine back to rock canyons in a matter of 100 miles.
I grew up in Southern Utah a small town called Orderville. Here is my tip. From Orderville you are 15 miles to Zion, 100 miles to the north or South Rim of the Grand Canyon, and 60 miles to Bryce Canyon.
In addition to these wonderful National Parks you have Cedar Breaks Hwy 14 which is just awesome in the fall as the leaves change. You also have HWY 12, 24 and 95 with Moab. If you are coming from Vegas; I drove through the Valley of Fire in the spring and it would be worth the time.
Last month myself and a few guys Left Salt Lake City drove to Springdale just outside Zion by way of Hwy 89, woke up and traveled to the N. Rim of the Grand Canyon then onto Page, Az.
If you leave Cal on Friday, come to Zion Harley and we will hook you up with the best itenerary for the time your here. We have a meet and greet BBQ every saturday starting at 11:00am. I moved from So Cal in '82 and know lots of places for everything you would want to do (thats legal)
