I have a 40 buck Pro Sport brand that fits nicely in it's own storage pouch and takes up little room in a bag. It's light and has aluminized shielding on the bottom so you can put it on the bike while the bike is still warm. I've been using it on trips for 6 years now. It still keeps my bike dry during even heavy downpours. I have a buddy that uses a Nelson Rigg cover. It does the same job of keeping the bike dry, is the same size, and costs about the same. I bought mine from an indy buddy. He has likely sold about 100 of them over the years with no complaints. My buddy bought his from jap indy shop.

Check out the pic to see the compactness.

I got a HD cover for mine on ebay for about 40 bucks. I got the one with no logo on it. I cover the bike overnight. I pull the windshield and take it in to wash it, cover the bike and put the windshield on in the morning. The bike is dry and good to go. I have a little extra peace of mind because it is hard to tell what type of bike is under the cover it doesn't scream Harley Davidson. I also figure it keeps away the people who like to touch or sit on bikes.

I also leave stuff in the saddlebags overnight. Bike stuff. It is still there in the morning. Cover the bike, set the alarm and sleep with one eye open and HAVE A GREAT TRIP.

My wife and I have Coolmax covers for our bikes and always take them when the bikes will be outside at a campground or hotel. To me, it's as much a security issue as protection. I have had to store them wet before but when we get to the next place, I hang them up or put them on the bikes and they dry out quickly.

I agree on the Walmart cover. I have one. It's light, fits in its own bag. Weights about the same as a shirt and takes up as much room. I live close to the Yellowstone area and have gone through many times. I understand about water not hurting the bike, it doesn't, but nice to pull off the cover and everything is dry and clean. Good luck.

I've used a 8x10 plastic tarp alot. with some braded 1/8" nylon rope. Let er coll down, throw the tarp over the bike and lace the eyelets together under the bike with the rope. nice an secure. And works great as a ground cover or a tent or just a cover to hold over ya for a rain tent in sudden downpours in no mans land. Or tie two ends to the bike, streach it out and stake it down, makes a nice quick lean to for short snoozes. and if ya got a tour pack just fold it the size of the tourpac and lay in on top and close the pac up. No bag wrestlin matches.
